- Auronzo di Cadore - Our journey begins with a delightful two-hour drive through charming mountain villages, leading to a brief 30-minute stop at the stunning Lake Auronzo. Here, visitors can enjoy a short stroll along the lake’s crystal-clear waters, beautifully framed by the Marmarole mountain range, as they are welcomed into the Dolomites.
Lake Auronzo boasts a fascinating geological history, having been formed by a glacier that carved a deep basin in the valley during the last ice age. This breathtaking landscape continues to draw visitors from around the globe. As the largest lake in Cadore, it spans approximately 1.7 square kilometers.
- Lago di Misurina - Nestled in the heart of the Dolomites, our second stop is a 30-minute drive away. Lake Misurina, the largest natural alpine lake in Cadore, is renowned for its beneficial air quality, particularly for those with respiratory conditions. Visitors can enjoy a leisurely walk around the lake or opt for a delightful lunch at one of the local huts or restaurants, savoring traditional mountain dishes while admiring the majestic peaks.
Situated at an altitude of 1,754 meters, Lake Misurina is surrounded by stunning mountain peaks, including the Tre Cime di Lavaredo. The lake, with a maximum depth of 5 meters, covers an area of about 0.14 square kilometers. Its pristine waters, fed by mountain streams, make it one of Italy’s cleanest and purest lakes.
- Lago di Dobbiaco - A short 20-minute journey brings us to our third stop, Lake Dobbiaco. This small alpine lake, surrounded by forests and mountains, features crystal-clear waters and a rocky beach.
Lake Dobbiaco is distinguished by its clear waters that mirror the extraordinary natural surroundings. Located in South Tyrol, near the Austrian border, it lies between the Tre Cime natural park and the Fanes-Sennes-Braies natural park. The lake has an estimated volume of 286,000 cubic meters and a perimeter of about 4.5 kilometers.
It is one of the few alpine water meadows (wetlands) and is fed by several small streams, with the Rienza River serving as its outlet.
- Lago di Braies - Our fourth stop, after another 20-minute drive, takes us to the northeastern tip of Italy, near the Austrian border, to visit the renowned Lake Braies. This emerald-colored lake, surrounded by the Dolomites, is one of the most photographed in Italy.
Lake Braies is celebrated for its clear blue-green waters, set against a backdrop of towering peaks, dense forests, and flowery meadows. With a depth of 36 meters, it is fed by numerous small streams from the surrounding mountains.
Lake Braies is a must-visit for anyone exploring the Dolomites or South Tyrol, offering a unique blend of natural beauty, outdoor activities, and cultural heritage.
- Cortina d’Ampezzo - Our final destination, reached after about an hour, is Cortina d’Ampezzo, encircled by the Dolomites. This prestigious sports resort is a favored holiday spot, known for hosting the 1956 Winter Olympics and the upcoming 2026 Games. Visitors can enjoy a stroll through the vibrant town center, exploring artisan shops and unique boutiques. After this last stop, a two-hour journey awaits to return to the starting point.
Cortina d’Ampezzo is one of the world’s premier ski destinations, having hosted the Winter Olympics in 1956. It has remained a popular choice for skiers and snowboarders ever since.
The city boasts a rich history dating back to Roman times and was a significant trade and commerce hub in the Middle Ages. In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Cortina d’Ampezzo gained popularity due to its natural beauty.
