Venice’s grandeur is epitomized by the opulence of St. Mark’s Basilica, a perfect fusion of Venetian art and a unique combination of Byzantine, Romanesque, and Gothic styles. Five Oriental-style domes crown the shadowy, mysterious interior, which gleams with golden mosaics, colorful marbles, precious stones, and pearls, all guarded by the four gilded bronze horses proudly standing atop the central entrance.
