Vaporetto travel - cheap and easy - Very easy to find the Vaporetto office to exchange the voucher for the tickets. The walk to the jetty is by several travellators. Vaporettos are quite frequent. No problems at all.

Ideal for getting to Venice - Works just fine. Nice on time and enough space. Keep in mind that to get there you still have a long road ahead (:-). Fortunately with roller belts. It takes a few minutes, but it is nicely marked.

Much safer than the bus!! - Despite the negative opinion of other Reviewers we have always now started using the Alilaguna boats and found it a much safer way of getting into the city than the bus from the airport with the challenges that entails (bus luggage doors open to all and sundry on arrival at Piazzale Roma; ...figuring out which vaporetto embarcadero you need down the Grande Canal and the increasing number of bag snatchers and pick pockets in the area of the train station. One drawback to mention - we met a nice couple on our Alilaguna boat in to the city who said they had paid for tickets on line and the system wouldn't connect to their phone on arrival so they had to pay again for their tickets . We didn't have that problem- we bought our tickets at the kiosk by the departure area. We only have praise for the Alilaguna service and wish it stopped at the point nearest to where we want to be although it really isn't much of a problem to get the vaporetto one more stop..

It felt like a long wait... - It felt like a long wait for our water taxi, but seeing the islands and Venice from the water was lovely.

Good no frills water bus but arrive at least an hour early and check whether this or the boat to the bus is closer. - With the location of our hotel significantly closer to this stop than the one for the water bus to the airport bus this was the better choice for us. It was easy to purchase a ticket at the kiosk on the dock and the boat arrived right on time. With needing to take the first one of the morning it was not very full. Though it wasn’t our experience, with the earliest bus our hotel did say use the boat an hour earlier than you need in case it is off time or full. I could definitely see how it would be hard to keep to a schedule as the day progresses with sharing the docks with the vaporetto and navigating through all the other boats. The driver actually tried to slow down and ease into the dock rather than suddenly stop and throw the boat into the dock like the vaporetto. It is a long walk to the actual airport gates but it didn’t seem as long as stated and was much better than the alternative of dragging our luggage through the narrow streets of Venice. The only reason I downgraded a star was due to the confusion of how to scan your ticket and not knowing you need to also scan again to leave at the airport. It took four people to figure out the button to push on the scanner in order to be able to scan the ticket to open the gates at the dock. For reference on the scanner you need to push the digital button at the top middle of the display. Give yourself an extra hour, be prepared for hard seats and a no frills experience, and look up whether the station to the bus or this water boat would be closest.

Slow taxis - Long walk from gates to water bus but I expected that - ticket exchange was good (no problems) but line was long so we had to wait twice as long - and water taxi was crowded and slow

AVOID THIS HORRIBLE BUSINESS - If it’s possible, you want to avoid these people. I am absolutely astonished that a business can be run this badly and still continue. We were treated incredibly rudely by the people running the boats, 2 of them on different occasions but one of them particularly was so bad. We were trying to make it to the airport for our flight. Got to the dock with tickets and plenty of time. First boat pulls up, a bunch of people get off and some get on to replace them. The guy then asks for 2 last people, and my wife and I were next in line… just 2 people. We told him we were 2 people and he grabbed some others behind us. We were a little burnt by this but what came next makes this look polite. We waited for the next boat. About 20 minutes later it came and we had stood in exactly the same place, at the very front of the line. The boat attendant put a board out for people to walk on and let people off. We were on the left corner of this board (so people could leave the boat). We are CLEARLY at the front of the line. He then walks out and turns his back to us blocking us from boarding and starts motioning people around him so we can’t board. I said to him, “excuse me sir, we are at the front of the line” and he kept telling us to stay put and be quiet. After he let maybe 10-12 people board ahead of us and the threat of being first in line and missing the boat a second time became apparent, I just held up my tickets and we leapt behind him onto the board and got on. He didn’t stop us from boarding but I’m still shocked and confused to be treated this way. If there’s an alternative option, I highly suggest it. Although we found many of the boat workers to be unnecessarily rude. Tainted our entire opinion of Venice if I’m honest.
