Constructed by the Romans around 50 AD, the Pont du Gard is the most significant and prestigious remnant of the ancient Nîmes aqueduct. This engineering marvel was designed to transport water from the Eure spring, located at the base of the town of Uzès, to Nîmes. In 1985, it was recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
