- Elephant Rock - Join us on an exhilarating ATV adventure to explore the renowned attractions of Vestmannaeyjar, including volcanic landscapes and puffins. The tour begins by heading south along the island, where we will visit one of its most unique landmarks, the elephant or “elephant rock.”
- Storhofdi (Great Cape) - From Elephant Rock, we will journey towards Stórhöfði, where the stunning cluster of Vestmannaeyja islands greets us. On clear days, you can see all the way to Surtsey, the southernmost island in the Vestmannaeyjar group, formed by an underwater eruption on November 14, 1963.
At Stórhöfði, the panoramic views are spectacular, although the weather can be quite windy as it is the windiest spot in the country. We will take a leisurely walk to a special location, allowing ample time to admire Vestmannaeyjar’s crown jewel, the puffins. Watch them frolic on the slopes, take flight, and land, while the guide shares fascinating insights about the puffins and their habitat.
- Eldfell - Next, we travel from Stórhöfði into the lava fields, embarking on the “off-road” segment of our journey.
During the excursion, we will visit Prestvik beach, where the fishing vessel Pelagus was stranded. We will also explore the site where Guðlaugur Friðþórsson reached shore after swimming 5-6 km in the dark, frigid sea following the sinking of Hellisey VE 503, as depicted in the film The Deep. We will navigate through the lava fields and into the heart of the Eldfell volcano, along the coast, where the views are truly breathtaking.
This trip is perfect for families who will delight in exploring the historical sites of Vestmannaeyjar on a thrilling ATV ride. The ATVs are automatic and easy to operate, requiring no prior experience. Each ATV accommodates two people, with the driver needing a valid driving license and passengers being 6 years or older.
