The Apennines is a mountain range that runs vertically through Italy, passing through Mugello and providing the region with its stunning mountainous terrain. The hiking trail has been an integral part of the region’s main transportation system since the Etruscan era, situated between central Italy and the Lombardy plain. The Etruscans previously used this path to link the towns of Fiesole and Felsina (Bologna). Later, it was populated by the Romans, and during the Medieval era, was the residence of Tuscany’s noble Count Guidi. It continued to be inhabited by agricultural families until the mid-20th century. Taking this trail through the forest is essentially a travel from the past to the present. Traces of early human settlers can still be seen in the form of aged houses and established roads, but these abandoned precincts are mere reminders of the past life.
