Excellent customer experience... Kudos John! - John was friendly. He was of great help in ensuring that our visit to Livingstone was worthwhile. He knows his craft and is flexible as well. He was recommended to us by friends who visited Livingstone and used his services. He did exceed our expectations.

More of a taxi driver than a tour guide - John was punctual, his car was clean and spacious. We booked him for a tour of Victoria Falls on the Zambian side. He didn’t contribute a lot to the tour, or take our pictures. He mainly just walked a few paces ahead of us around the park. Later on in the day, there was an issue with card payment. We had to deal with this issue standing in the afternoon sun. We weren’t offered a seat whilst we dealt with this, even though John and his colleague were sat down, so I think it could have been handled better. John also miscalculated my price and asked me to pay again. Given the extreme heat, it wasn’t a pleasant experience. John drove us to the Botswana border. However, when we reached Botswana, we were asked to pay an additional $90 by the partner company. John didn’t inform about this earlier on the Zambian side, so you can imagine our surprise, especially as it was only a 14 minute drive. It is important to note that John was present during this interaction and he didn’t interject, or offer any other solution.

Fantastic Falls — but AVOID this tour - Tour operator was more of a taxi driver with exploitative pricing. It wasn't just this issue, he has attributes that would be considered objectionable universally. Three issues spring to mind. John or Henric (His name kept changing) tells customers to cancel original bookings with third party apps/agent, then charges bogus fees for card payments, and quotes prices in another currency that isn't the local currency. These were some warning signs that I wish I had taken in hindsight. Any tour operator running a legitimate business should take card payments, and not insist on cash payments for large amounts. As a tour provider, his approach to hospitality was disappointing. The Victoria Falls tour was basic. We could have gone independently at a fraction of the price (You should do that!). The 'tour' felt like paying someone to tail behind, and there was little pleasure I drew out of it. My expectations were unmet and I felt even more resentment when he kept pestering for a five star trip advisor review. Subsequently, we traveled to Zimbabwe several days later and explored Victoria Falls from the other side — partly to offset ruined memories from Henric Tours. We booked John for a trip to the border in his comfortable van. He showed up on time but with a mystery passenger in the vehicle that needed a lift. This was not communicated to my party beforehand, and was another red flag. Also, his quote in US$ was excessive for the distance travelled. However, the worst part of this was what he didn't communicate. We had no idea that we would require another vehicle to take us to the border town. We explicitly stated that we were picking up our hire car from the border town, and we'd assumed that it would be one charge. Whilst he was kind enough to arrange for his colleague to undertake this task, it became obvious very quickly that we were being treated as cash cows. His colleague wanted US$90 for a 14 minute car ride! A quick check on the local taxi app calculated the journey between $4-6. John/Henric was present throughout the interaction with his colleagues but chose not to intervene. The only thing he did was to remove our luggage from his vehicle and place them in his colleague's vehicle — attempting to leave us with no choice but to accept their inflated prices. These were people that he'd arranged for us for the final 14 mins journey —when we thought that he was driving us to where we needed to be. When I'd mentioned that matters could've been handled better and that experiences on holiday leave a lasting impression, he weaponised this feedback and made disparaging comments about my race and nationality. This was hurtful and unkind. In summary, John Henric's demeanour lacked hospitality. He sees tourists as lucrative targets, and he evidences this by inflating prices, providing minimal service, taking no responsibility when things go wrong and he's lacking in transparency. Furthermore doesn't read the room or demonstrate genuine care for paying customers. Since returning home, he has pestered us to leave 5 star google and TripAdvisor reviews. Well, as someone that has written over 100 reviews on here, I value the Tripadvisor community and I understand the importance of fairness and honesty when providing feedback. What you've just read is an honest review.
