ITINERARY

The program of the Vienna Mozart Concerts is distinguished by a meticulous selection of works. The artistic concept underlying the musical sequence of overtures, arias, duets, symphony movements, and concerts provides a profound insight into the monumental works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

Performers

The Vienna Mozart Orchestra comprises 30 musicians from the finest Viennese orchestras; 2 opera singers (soprano and baritone) from the Vienna State Opera and Volksoper; and 1 soloist for piano, violin, and flute.

Orchestra, conductor, and singers perform in period costumes.

Formerly the winter residence of the Habsburgs, the Hofburg holds a unique position among Vienna’s grand festive halls. It was here that the Emperor entertained his guests. Modern technical systems, such as air-conditioning, have been seamlessly integrated into this magnificent hall.

History of the Vienna Mozart Orchestra

The Vienna Mozart Orchestra was established in 1986 by musicians from the most prestigious Viennese orchestras and various chamber music ensembles. The artists shared the goal of preserving Vienna’s musical tradition and culture by dedicating themselves to the cultivation and representation of symphonic chamber music from the Viennese Classical Period.

As the name Vienna Mozart Orchestra suggests, the 30 musicians focus exclusively on the works of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, the most distinguished representative of that period who, although born in Salzburg, made Vienna his home. The orchestra’s repertoire includes all of Mozart’s symphonies, a wide range of his instrumental concertos (for violin, piano, and wind), and arias and duets from his most famous operas.
