- Wat Si Saket - The guide and driver will collect guests from their hotel in Vientiane to begin a morning city tour of the Laotian capital. The first destination is Wat Sisaket, the oldest monastery in Vientiane, which has retained its original structure while other temples have undergone significant renovations. Within the main hall and along the courtyard walls, there are 6,840 Buddha images nestled in small niches or displayed on shelves, accompanied by stunning frescoes.
- Wat Ho Phra Keo - The tour continues to the nearby Ho Phra Keo, a former Royal temple now serving as a Museum of Buddhist art and sculpture. This building once housed the Emerald Buddha until it was moved to Bangkok after a conflict with the Lao in 1778. It still showcases some of the country’s finest Buddha sculptures.
- Great Sacred Stupa (Pha That Luang) - The That Luang, with its golden stupa shaped like a banana flower, is the most revered shrine in Laos and is a must-see.
- Patuxay Monument - Known as the Patuxai, this victory gate was built in 1958, inspired by the “Arc de Triumph” in Paris, and features traditional Lao motifs, including the Kinnaree, a mythical bird-woman. Visitors with energy can climb to the top of the monument for a panoramic view of Laos’ capital from Vientiane’s highest point (optional).
- Buddha Park - After lunch at a local restaurant, the tour proceeds outside the city to the renowned Buddha Park, created by a monk in the 1950s. This intriguing site on the outskirts of Vientiane is recognized as a major religious location in the country. The park is filled with statues of Buddhist and mythological animals related to Buddhism, offering numerous photo opportunities.
- Talat Sao - In the afternoon, if time allows, a brief stop can be made at Vientiane’s central market, Talat Sao, before returning to the hotel. Often referred to as a ‘morning market,’ this is somewhat misleading as it typically remains open until late afternoon.
The tour concludes with a return to the hotel in Vientiane at 4 pm after a full day of exploring the sights in and around Vientiane.
