• Buddha Park - Also known as Xieng Khuan, Buddha Park is an outdoor sculpture garden featuring enormous statues of Buddha and Hindu gods. Situated 25km southeast of Vientiane, it was established in 1958 by the monk and sculptor Bunleua Sulila.

According to local folklore, during the temple’s construction in 1563, a pregnant woman named Si Muang willingly sacrificed herself to calm the angry spirits. She leapt into a pit where the central pillar was to be placed and was crushed when the pillar was lowered. This central pillar became the heart of the town developing around Wat Si Muang, which remains revered as Vientiane’s ‘mother temple.’
