Adventure, nature and unforgettable moments! - This Phong Nha Kayak/hiking tour with our guide, Monkey, was an absolute blast.
A UNESCO World Heritage site on the Son River, known for its massive caverns, dramatic limestone karsts and incredible natural beauty. The water reflects the jungle-covered peaks like a mirror and is breathtaking.
After kayaking quite a distance inside the cave (much further than the dragon boats are allowed to go), we continued with an exciting hike that involved basic rock climbing (with helmets and torches); such a fun and slightly adrenaline-fuelled challenge. We also swam in an underground pool, enjoyed being taken by the current of a mild natural whirlpool back up on to the beach and were then given the chance to jump off a cliff into a plunge pool (optional, but definitely exhilarating!).
Another awesome moment was discovering how locals used cave wall mud as a natural skin cleanse; a quirky and enjoyable experience that made great photos.
We finished with a wonderful lunch inside the cave before seeing traces of ancient Cham people writing on the cave walls, which was a fascinating cultural highlight.
Tip: take a waterproof case for your phone and reef shoes if you have them; they make the kayaking and river walk sections even more enjoyable.
This tour was the perfect blend of activity, nature, culture and adventure. Monkey was not only great fun but also a supportive, attentive guide throughout. An unforgettable day!

Kayaking this cave is the way to go! - Travelling in mid-January left us as the only two who signed up (through our homestay) for this tour. We entered the cave in our kayak with only our guide and no other kayaks on the water. We only saw two tour boats after we entered and no one else until we were stopping at the beach inside for lunch. We were able to experience the quiet of the cave with only dripping water from stalactites. Monkey(sp?) was our guide and he was excellent. Lots of pride in his country and a desire to preserve the cave and its history. He always prepared us for what was next and encouraged us to be careful when we were hiking in the cave. We swam at the ‘end’ of the cave and then again where we stopped for lunch. Phong Nha Cave is perhaps the most beautiful work of art we have ever seen. Going in the kayak let us go further into the cave, past the electric lights where we could truly appreciate the environment.

So much better than the usual boat trip - What an amazing experience. So glad we did it. Don’t be put off by the price. It Is worth it. We used our own tracking sandals and I think they were better than those supplied. The guides are fantastic and extremely conscious of your safety. Always ready to give guidance on where to step and offer a helping hand. They also take plenty of photos on your phone. We are both older traveler’s in our late 60s and early 70s. With a bit of effort we were able to do this trip. Have a go and enjoy the adventure. It really was amazing

Amazing tour! - This was an incredible experience! The summary doesn’t do it justice. The caves were amazing, it was so cool to be alone in the cave (with a group of course) and see the amazing stalactites that the cave has to offer. The lunch was delicious as well. The guides were AMAZING, cannot recommend and thank them enough!

DO IT - I was apprehensive doing this tour. I knew the kayaking would be fine but wasn’t sure about the climbing bit. I’m so glad I did it. It was brilliant and everyone in the group managed it well. I’m not saying it’s easy… but it’s definitely do-able! I’m a 49 yr old active lady… found it a really good challenge. Safety is there when needed. I used the shoes and glad I did as I felt I had more grip and also after thinking I may wear sneakers I think they would have been bulky and get in the way. Our group was great. The lunch was much needed and perfect. The cave was phenomenal. I would highly recommend if you like safe adventure and getting out of your comfort zone. The funniest bit was at the end walking through the main cave in my bikini when all the locals are dressed up in nice clothing.!Felt so under-dressed.. hahaha!!

A great and varied day - We really enjoyed this day trip. Leaving behind all the boat trip visitors and kayaking on further into the cave....then scrambling further on including some ladders and ropes... then swimming deep inside the cave. It was all great fun with good guides who were very attentive and helpful.

Amazing experience! - Such a great tour, I was a bit hesitant to go because of how few reviews there were but it turned out amazing! The crew was very experienced and the tour was amazing. First we kayaked for about an hour, then about two hours of wandering through the cave and back to kayak and lunch. You get to see more deep parts of the cave, swim in the cave river, experience real cave darkness... Some people were commenting on the shoes provided by the tour, I felt like they were okay. If you are prone to blisters or want some more secure shoe, I recommend taking your own water shoes (sandals would be enough I think).

Great way to explore the caves, however tour guide was very unprofessional. - The trip was great and going with kayak was a great way to explore the cave, so we are super happy with that.
We did however find the tour guides to be not as expected. They didn’t give a lot of information to us as a group, both before and during the tour. So it was at times confusing what was going to happen and only a few people got to hear interesting information about the cave.
The main guide "monkey" made a lot of jokes through out the day, where many of them made it feel like a teenage boys trip, more than a professional guided tour. Some of the jokes by the several of the guides were also at the expense of the participants, in what seemed to be an attempt to impress the other guides.
The main guide "monkey" also loudly said «f*ck you» to another tourist not in our group, that apparently said something impolite to the guide in Vietnamese, and after made jokes about how he could beat the tourist up.
He also spoke negatively about his level of pay and that the size of groups he sometimes guides is not safe. This wasnt done in a professional way of highlighting the importance of tipping as part of the income stream for those working in the tourist industry (as we have had other guides do), but more simply badmouthing his employer and saying he wants to quit. We found this very strange.
We brought all this feedback to the tour company who have said they will look into it.
