- Lukiskes Square - Day 1 – Exploring Soviet Heritage in Vilnius
The tour kicks off at the Civil Registry Office of Vilnius, a striking example of Soviet-era architecture. Participants will learn about the building’s significance and symbolism during Soviet times and how its role has evolved in contemporary Lithuania.
Next, the group will take a leisurely walk through a nearby park and begin descending a charming pedestrian street that offers a panoramic view of modern Vilnius — a perfect juxtaposition of the city’s past and present.
- KGB Museum (Genocido Auku Muziejus) - Along the route, the group will pass the Museum of Occupations and Freedom Fights (commonly known as the KGB Museum). The guide will provide a brief explanation of the building’s somber history and the stories preserved within its walls. Those interested in exploring further can visit inside, with prior notice required. The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday, and guided tours are available. The guide does not hold a license for these tours, so arrangements should be made in advance with each group.
- Druskininkai - Before proceeding, there will be a short coffee break — an ideal time to relax and reflect on the experiences so far.
The journey will then continue towards Druskininkai (120 km from Vilnius), one of Lithuania’s most cherished resort towns, renowned for its mineral springs, wooden villas, and serene atmosphere. A stop for lunch at a local restaurant is planned along the way.
PS. Depending on the weather and lighting conditions, the visit to the Grūtas open-air Park may occur on the way to Druskininkai (approximately 5 km from the town) or the following day on the return to Vilnius.
Option I: The group will check into one of Druskininkai’s spa hotels, where relaxation and unwinding are encouraged. The guide will be pleased to recommend the best local restaurants, spa treatments, or evening activities.

Grutas Park - Grūtas Park is situated about 120 km southwest of Vilnius, near the spa town of Druskininkai.
It is an intriguing open-air museum nestled in a pine forest, spanning around 20 hectares. The park showcases a remarkable collection of Soviet-era statues, busts, and ideological relics that once stood throughout Lithuania.
By gathering these monuments in one location, the park allows visitors to reflect on the legacy of Soviet occupation and understand how ideology influenced public art and daily life. Instead of erasing these symbols, Lithuania chose to relocate them here — transforming propaganda into a space for dialogue about memory, power, and reconciliation.
Grūtas Park is more than just a display of relics; it serves as a living reminder of how societies confront challenging histories. Each statue narrates a story — of authority, control, and the resilience of the human spirit.
