Long Tan, Nui Dat Tour - We took my father, now in his late 70s and an RNZA 161 Battery veteran on the Long Tan and Nui Dat tour to revisit where he served in 1970. It was a moving and memorable experience. Our guide, Huong, was respectful and engaging, bringing period photos to help him visualise the area as it was and orient himself after more than 50 years. The Long Tan Cross memorial was beautifully maintained and treated with the respect it deserves. Thank you, Huong, for such a meaningful day.

ANZAC day in Vietnam - Long Tan and Nui Dat were very special to visit at dawn on ANZAC Day. Our guide made our day memorable by working well with the local authorities, changing our points of interest according to our requests and being very knowledgeable about the area.

Long Tan, Nui Dat & Vung Tau - Nam our guide had very good knowledge of the Australian Troop locations and was able to relate various stories to add to the experience. He was able to answer the questions put to him plus had photos that related to the areas we went. Highly recommend this tour.

Above and beyond. - I contacted Maika Tours well before our visit to Vietnam as it was the only tour provider I found that visited Luscombe Airfield where my Father flew from during the Vietnam War. My father unfortunately did not survive the conflict and for years I have wished to visit where he was based while there. I explained this to Vu Giang of Maila Tours who I was corresponding with prior to our trip and shared with him details of my dad’s circumstances while posted at Nui Dat. We were picked up by Nam our tour guide from our accommodation in HCM City and warmly greeted. Unbeknownst to us, Nam had been passed on the details I had sent through to Vu relating to my Fathers posting at Nui Dat. Nam explained to us he had been in contact with an Australian gentleman he knows well living in Vietnam by the name of Luke Johnston. Luke the founder of a program called “Healing Through History” that researches and attempts to find information and possible closure for veterans of the war or loved ones who have lost someone dear to them during the war. Luke meet us that morning at a cafe not far from the crash site to discuss and lead us to where my dad lost his life. I had no idea this had been arranged and was totally unexpected, completely changing the dynamic of our tour! OMG, it was so surreal!! I had anticipated going to Nui Dat and visiting the remnants of Luscombe Airfield to give me some insight and to walk the ground where my dad was during the conflict. I did not think it would be possible to visit the actual crash site being some distance from Nui Dat. Luke had kindly taken the time to research and locate the site. Upon meeting him, he shared with us his findings. He was so compassionate and thoughtful in his effort to lead us to the site. The respect shown by Luke and Nam regarding the powerful nature of this event, it’s significance and level of emotion felt that day was so dignified and heart felt. 🙏 After some time to compose ourselves and some further exploration of the area, Nam then took us to the Long Tan memorial, purchasing flowers for us on the way to place at the memorial. The Last Post rang out from on his phone while we payed our respects making the experience so much more profound and significant. His level of knowledge and understanding of the history behind Long Tan is amazing. So insightful about events and occurrences of the battle. Lunch was at a seaside restaurant in Vung Tau and further sharing of information about Australia’s involvement of the war and base at Vung Tau on the trip back to HCM city. The tour was well organised and insightful. Nam spoke English well and was excellent in his delivery of information. Very knowledgeable. Kaz and I would like to thank Vu Giang who was in regular contact with us regarding the organisation of our tour. He was punctual in replying to emails and delivered clear insight as to what would be apparent on the tour. To Nam and Luke, words cannot describe our gratitude for how incredibly special you made the day for us. We cannot thank you enough. That day will never be forgotten due to its significance. Thank you so much 🙏 We highly recommend Miaka Tours and this particular tour if you wish to pay your respects to those who fought at the Battle of Long Tan. We had a private tour so paid a little extra for the privilege, however, worth every cent!!

Comprehensive Long Tan/Nui Dat tour - Mr Nam took my wife and I and a very interesting and thorough tour of Long Tan and Nui Dat. Nam is clearly very well researched and knowledgeable about the Australian involvement in the war, not just regurgitating facts from the internet but sharing stories from veterans and families. He is passionate about sharing the history with tour guests and is able to really immerse you and help you picture what main spots were once like. The view for lunch was amazing and seeing all the towns to and from HCMC was an awesome insight into daily life in Vietnam. The owner of Maika tours also took on some additional feedback after our trip in an extremely positive way - the sign of a well run business! If you’re an Aussie and want to see and experience the history of our Vietnam vets then this tour is the one you need to do.

Fantastic tour and experience - This was a great choice as my husband, a Vietnam veteran wanted to revisit this area and our guide Houng (I hope if have spelt your name correctly) was fantastic . She had a broad knowledge of the history and the specifics of the Australian presence in these areas. The tour was seamless, comprehensive and varied as we also had a tour of Vung Tau and lunch by the sea. A great day.

Highlight of my trip to Vietnam - Nam was my tour guide on March 16. He was very welcoming and very knowledgeable about Long Tan and the involvement of Australians in the battle. He shared a lot of history and detailed knowledge of the events leading up to, during and after the battle. He stopped to purchase flowers at the market which I was then able to lay at the memorial site. I also enjoyed a short walk around the market. We stopped for a Vietnamese lunch during the day and overall I would highly recommend this tour and Nam. I took my own poppies to lay at the memorial and this was accommodated. A highlight of my trip to Vietnam with a friendly, professional and extremely accommodating guide. I saw and learnt more than others I witnessed at the sites. Thank you so much Nam, money well spent.
