Volos - The driver will collect you at a convenient morning time to begin the journey towards Pelion, with the first stop being the coastal town of Volos. Located approximately 3.5 hours from Athens, Volos boasts a picturesque port where boats depart for the Sporades islands. It is renowned for its “Tsipouradika,” traditional taverns offering local Greek mezedes, small tapas-style dishes served with Tsipouro or Ouzo.

Makrinitsa - Following lunch, the tour ascends to Makrynitsa, known as “The Balcony of Pelion,” one of the most iconic villages in the region. In its charming main square, visitors can explore the Byzantine Museum, featuring exhibits from the 13th century AD. The next stop is the Monastery of the Dormition of the Theotokos, established in 1215 AD.

Kissos - After visiting Makrynitsa, the journey continues through the delightful village of Portaria, then on to Chania, a favored ski resort, and finally to Kissos. This enchanting village is nestled on the hillside at an altitude of 520 meters, surrounded by plane and chestnut trees. A highlight is the 17th-century 3-door Basilica Church of Saint Marina, one of Greece’s finest basilicas, and Agriolefkes, Pelion’s second ski resort (if visiting in winter).

After Kissos, the tour reaches its final destination for the day, the captivating village of Tsagkarada.

Tsagkarada - On the second day, the exploration of Tsagkarada begins. This expansive area stretches over two slopes and is filled with charming spots. Tsagkarada is distinguished by its beautiful mansions, traditional neoclassical houses, stone-paved streets, and intricate fountains, all set in a lush green environment. A delightful walking spot is the magical green setting, with a short stroll leading to the old stone bridge built in the 18th century.

From Tsagkarada’s main square, where a 1000-year-old enormous plane tree stands – with a trunk width exceeding 15 meters! – exciting hiking trails commence. These can be organized with a local experienced guide if desired (additional cost, please inquire). One trail leads from Tsagkarada to the sea at the famous Fakistra Beach and the seaside village of Damouchari, where lunch by the sea is an option.

Milies, Vizitsa, Pinakates, Kato Gatzea, Athens

Milies - After breakfast, the tour explores Milies, a stunning traditional Greek mountain village situated at 400 meters on Mount Pelion. Milies is notable as the terminus of the narrow-gauge (60 cm) Pelion Railway, constructed in 1895, with a visit to the station included. The breathtaking view from this elevated location encompasses the sea (Pagasitikos Bay), the mountain forests, Evia Island, and the surrounding traditional villages.

Next, visitors will explore the old library and the local Folklore Museum. The area is perfect for horse-riding and other outdoor activities.
