  Exploring the town and its magnificent towers will take about an hour. San Gimignano is a small, walled medieval hill town near Siena. Known as the “Town of Fine Towers,” it once boasted more than 70 towers during the Middle Ages. Today, it serves as an open-air museum, offering a glimpse into the medieval era. The town is also famous for saffron, the Golden Ham, and its white wine, Vernaccia di San Gimignano, made from the ancient Vernaccia grape variety grown on the area’s sandstone hillsides. In the main square, don’t miss the chance to taste the world’s best ice cream (Gelateria Dondoli), a two-time world champion, and admire the extraordinary craftsmanship in the village streets.
