Excellent guided trip from Auckland to the glow worm caves - Brett was an excellent guide and we had a fantastic day visiting the Waitomo glow worm caves and the kiwi bird sanctuary. He was punctual, very friendly, and a safe driver (important since the caves are about a 2.5 hour drive from Auckland). My sister and I enjoyed chatting with Brett and he did a nice job of providing information but not overwhelming us. The glow worm caves are a special experience and definitely worth a visit. Definitely a good way to spend a free day if you're visiting Auckland/the North Island! The kiwi sanctuary was cool, but not a must-see in our opinions. We were lucky enough to see some kiwis (apparently that's not a given), but the rest of the bird sanctuary was under construction and didn't have a lot of other birds that we could see. It wasn't far from the glow worm caves, so we were fine with it, but I think we would have been disappointed if we'd driven a long way just to go to the kiwi house. TL;DR: The glow worm caves are absolutely worth it and you should hire Brett as your guide for the day because he's a wonderful, friendly guide.
