- Te Wharewaka o Poneke - This distinctive and culturally important building features a statue of Kupe outside. Participants will be introduced to some Māori culture and learn about their ancestors’ journey to Pōneke (Wellington) and Aotearoa (New Zealand). The Wharewaka showcases beautifully carved waka (canoes).
- Solace In The Wind - Pose with this iconic and poetic statue on the waterfront while the guide shares stories about Wellington’s legendary wind! Be sure to capture a photo with the striking Wellington sign as well!
- Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa - The tour passes by Te Papa Museum, one of New Zealand’s top attractions, so participants know where to visit after the bike tour.
- Oriental Bay - The ride continues past the vibrant Oriental Bay. On summer days, locals can be seen swimming and sunbathing. If time permits, there will be a break here, offering the chance to enjoy a coffee or ice cream.
- Zephyrometer - This giant wind sculpture in beautiful Evan’s Bay is hard to miss! The stop includes learning about local nature, New Zealand’s fascinating energy system, and much more!
- Wellington Sign - The tour pauses in front of the giant “Wellington Blown Away” sign on the Miramar peninsula. This quirky and eye-catching homage to the Hollywood sign is a place to hear about Wellington’s conservation efforts, film industry stories, and more!

Hop on a bicycle and let our guide take you around the Wellington Waterfront, acquainting you with some fascinating historical and contemporary personalities that shaped Wellington into the vibrant cultural hub it is today. This excursion is ideal for those with limited time or who prefer to stick to cycling paths. The journey is only 10km, making the cycling leisurely and the distance manageable. For a longer biking experience, consider our Half Day Tour. Our Wellington Primer tour is undertaken at a comfortable speed, allowing ample opportunity for inquiries and photo-taking at each of the stops. The tour highlights six individuals instrumental in shaping the city, and additionally features notable Wellington landmarks such as the Parliament, Wellington Stadium, Te Papa Museum, Cuba St, Oriental Bay, Wellington Railway Station and the iconic Wellington Waterfront. Standard bicycles are used for this tour due to the primarily flat terrain, but an upgrade to an electric bike is available.
- Riders must be comfortable riding a bicycle (riding is mostly flat and we only use cycle lanes and sometimes busy shared paths)
- Remember sunscreen in summer
- Please dress appropriately- bring an extra layer in case or wind
- Moderate fitness advised- pedalling activates the electric assist
