Along the route, admire the majestic Snake River, roadside natural hot springs, beautiful creeks, and waterfalls, perfect for photo opportunities and awe-inspiring sights.
- Malad Gorge State Park - Visit Malad Gorge State Park, where the 60 ft. receding cataract known as Devil’s Washbowl once cascaded over the edge of this 250 ft. deep gorge into the Snake River, 2 1/2 miles from its current location. Enjoy the magnificent views of Malad Gorge, its volcanic features, and diverse wildlife.
- Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument - Next, explore the Thousand Springs State Park, Hagerman Fossil Beds National Monument Visitor Center. Discover exhibits and fossils from the largest find during the Pliocene Epoch, dating back 3.5 million years, including the renowned Hagerman horse, mastodon, ground sloth, and more.
- Balanced Rock Road - Relax and take in the beautiful countryside of Castleford, Idaho, on your way to Balanced Rock, one of Idaho’s most iconic sights. This unique rock formation, sculpted by the wind, stands 48 feet tall, weighs 40 tons, and balances on a base just under four feet long.
Before returning to town, make a brief stop at Balanced Rock County Park, located just a mile down the highway from Balanced Rock. Here, you can experience the massive rhyolite volcanic formations up close, creating a spectacular slot canyon where Little Salmon Creek flows quietly through. Keep an eye out for beavers, yellow-bellied marmots, and “mud swallows,” who nest on the canyon walls.
- Hagerman - Renowned for its fishing, hot springs, and charming country-style town, Hagerman, ID, is situated in the Hagerman Valley along the Snake River. Enjoy activities like rafting, kayaking, and pontoon boat rides while viewing “1,000 Springs and Waterfalls” along the Scenic Byway.

It is the only bridge in the United States where B.A.S.E. jumping is permitted without a permit every day of the year, drawing jumpers from around the globe to its rails.
- Evel Knievel Snake River Canyon Jump Site - On September 8th, 1976, the legendary daredevil Evel Knievel attempted his final jump across the Snake River. Although the jump was unsuccessful (Evel landed at the bottom of the Snake River Canyon and was safely rescued), his jump ramp remains visible from the I.B. Perrine Memorial Bridge and is accessible via a paved walking path along the Snake River Canyon Rim or by vehicle down a dirt road leading directly to the jump site.
- Buzz Langdon Visitor Center - Inside the center, find everything needed for a trip in Southern Idaho. Explore historic photos, watch informative videos, and learn about the four national park properties in the area. Speak with staff for maps, travel guides, lodging deals, and locals-only recommendations.
