Heed the negative reviews!! - We came off the Metro at Hollywood & Vine, glanced at a street map, and before we could even think about where to go, we were ambushed by Jo from Hollywood LA Tours. Jo immediately launched into his pitch: apparently, the part of Downtown we were standing in was “awful” and had “nothing worth seeing.” But not to worry—his company would show us the real Hollywood.
His big hook? We’d drive right up to the Hollywood Sign, hop out, and take pictures. He was explicit that his company had special permits that let customers get out at the sign. Well, that was an out-and-out lie. Not a misunderstanding. Not a little white fib. A bald-faced, shameless lie.
When the “bus” finally arrived, half an hour later than promised, it wasn’t the shiny new ride Jo had bragged about. Nope. It was a beat-up old van that looked like the windows had literally been cut out and framed with crooked, homemade trims screwed on like some DIY nightmare. Classy.
The tour kicked off with our guide, X. To his credit, he was energetic and fun, honestly the only decent thing about this circus. But within minutes, the truth came out: no one gets to the Hollywood Sign anymore. Not today, not yesterday, not ever. The access has been shut down for years due to fires and restrictions. The closest we got was a hill opposite and miles away. Jo had sold us pure fiction, and we were dumb enough to believe him because, hey, we’re only tourists.
The “tour” itself was laughable. It consisted of driving past gates, fences, and the occasional glimpse of a roof that supposedly belonged to celebrities. Case in point: “David and Victoria Beckham’s house.” Except, no, it was their laundry facility at the bottom of the drive, where we were treated to the thrilling sight of a washing machine. Next up: “Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s house.” Nope again, just a porch roof barely visible at the end of a long driveway. And on it went: gates, hedges, shadows, and empty promises.
The privilege of this scam? A “special deal” of $90 for the two of us. Ninety bucks for the pleasure of being lied to, herded into a junk van, and driven around to stare at other people’s security gates.
TL;DR: Total rip-off. Avoid Hollywood LA Tours and especially Jo the hustler who prowls by the 7th Street Metro stop. Even our guide admitted he didn't appreciate the sales staff making things up and apologised for the lies, blaming Jo for being “new.” That says it all. We were suckered. Don’t let yourself be.

Disappointing experience with booking a tour - Unfortunately, I was not taken on a 2-hr bus tour of Hollywood in spite of booking the tour. I arrived early for my 10 AM booking to the storefront where the tours are sold and managed. At about 9:55, an employee arrived to open up the store and invited we to wait inside where I could sit and relax. She called the office that manages the tours and found out that the driver for the 10 AM tour was ill and hadn't come to work, and that they were looking to find another driver to conduct the tour at 11 AM. This wouldn't work for my schedule. After the worker made a few calls to check on it all, I finally called the tour office and spoke to a very apologetic female worker who assured me that they would refund my charges. I haven't yet seen those charges hit my account, but I am glad that the company was ready to admit their failing on this one. Hopefully, this was an outlier in their service record.

Worst tour we’ve ever been on!! - 1. we were promised a tour within 20 minutes and after we paid we waited an hour and a half. We are not allowed to sit in the first row even though we were the first, as a family with 2 children we had to sit all the way in the back. This was not the worst part.
2. the driver was our „tour guide“ and her tour Information was ridiculous. She kept telling us about her own wild youth in LA, kept talking about herself instead of the city, had no interesting information other than, as she proudly kept repeating, her gossip about celebrities which she got from TikTok. Half way through the tour she stopped in Beverly Hills to buy a guide on celebrity homes so she could provide good information on the tour. It was a pain to listen to her non informative gossip chatter for two hours and we were glad when the tour was over.
What a waste of our money and TIME!!!

False advertising - According to the photos on the poster: false advertising. I was waiting for the bus to park where I could take pictures with the famous Hollywood Sign. We only saw it from a distance, and not even the driver could park to take photos. The poster is false advertising.
