The Westport House tour is a MUST! - We accidentally pumped into the house tour by John and we LOVED IT! We were on a trip to Westport and decided to check the gardens when we learned there was a tour of the house. We thought it would be a generic narration of the history of the place but it was an outstanding, fun, engaging storytelling of the beauty of the house. If you ever visit Westport, don’t miss out on the Westport House tour! It definitely made a difference in our trip. We visited in the afternoon of May 4th, 2025 and I am still pleased with the experience months later! Thank you John for making our trip memorable.

Fantastic Fionn! - This experience was a gem! I was thankful to learn so much and explore this historic masterpiece. Fionn was our tour guide and he is a wealth of knowledge in the history of Westport and Ireland. He took the time to answer questions and show us important features of the house. There are portraits of the home’s past royalty and he has incredible knowledge of them all. He also has a great sense of humor and ability to keep us engaged throughout the entire tour. This is certainly a must-see when visiting Westport! You won’t be disappointed.

Thoroughly enjoyed! - We fully enjoyed our tour with our docent, Dolores, who spoke of the history with love and humor, as well. It made for a delightful experience. The grounds are beautiful and the house itself has so much character and many years of challenges with changes in its use. Thank you, Dolores!

Amazing house, fun tour with great guide. - Best your guide on Ireland vacation. on My wife and I spent more than a week in Ireland. And we toured a lot grand places. One or two a day. But Fionn (?(I really hope that’s right)) was the best guide we had the pleasure to spend time with. Informative & relatable tour. Building is amazing. But the tour set the house and its residents in contexts of Irish history. Plus our guide brought the funny-always appreciated. The house and grounds are impressive. The tour was fun. And there is even talk of a pirate queen that goes toe to toe with Queen Elizabeth. Great way to spend a morning in Westport. Only bit of advice…my iPhone didn’t quite get t)3 layout of the grounds. So if you’re walking from sea side of Westport it’s gonna take you longer than your phone thinks. Can’t recommend it enough.

Fascinating House - A really fascinating place. Our guide (John) was really knowledgeable and very engaging- he also had a great sense of humour! Aware that the house is closing for a couple of years for renovations so will definitely will be going back when it reopens!

The highlight of my stay in Westport - It was worth the entry fee. I booked online but that isn’t necessary for just a look around the house. The booking fee does, though, give an excellent explanation, beautifully delivered by John on this day, of the history of the house and its origins, together with the history of the families beginning with the infamous Pirate Queen. The house will be closed at the end of this season, undergoing extensive renovation all undertaken by the current incumbent’s at no doubt great cost. Well worth a visit.

Well worth a visit - Fionn was our guide for the tour of Westport House. A very knowledgeable guide, everything was well explained. This is a lovely big house, set in large gardens & very close to Westport town. The house needs a lot of restoration work but should be closing after this summers (2025) season for a lot of work to be done by the current owners. It was well worth a visit & we'd consider visiting again if or when in the Westport area.
