Stunning, incredible, fantastic.. Seriously! - I’ve lived in Switzerland for forty years and seen a lot of the country but this is the first time I’ve been up to Schynige Platte. We were lucky with the weather - you do need clear views for the best experience - and we were thrilled with the views in bright autumn sunshine. The trip up in the little cogwheel train is amazing, not only for the views that open up after every tunnel and forest section, but also for the awe inspiring engineering that went into building it so many years ago. Eventually the big moment arrived as we turned yet another steep corner and got a view of the massive range of mountains that includes the famous trio Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. The entire trainload of people gasped at the sight of the snow covered peaks (lovely togetherness moment!). Once at the top there’s a restaurant and huge terraces where you can enjoy this staggeringly beautiful view. Yesterday we sat outside, protected from a cool breeze by the building, and drank in the view that takes in the Lauterbrunnen and the Grindlewald valleys as well as the massive mountains. The famous north face of the Eiger was directly opposite and we could even make out the building that contains Europe’s highest weather station and visitor areas on the Jungfraujoch (the saddle between the Mönch and the Jungfrau). There are hiking trails of course and an alpine flower garden which must be beautiful in the mountain spring (which is quite a bit later than spring lower down). If you get a good day weather-wise I’d recommend this trip as a real alternative to the Jungfrau for anyone with altitude problems because Schynige Platte is just under 2000m high whereas the Jungfrau is around 3500m. We’ve had friends who developed awful headaches up there so it’s just as well to be aware. I’m putting S. Platte at the top of my list for taking overseas visitors to in future, weather allowing. In a country full of spectacular places this ranks right up there with the best.

Great day at Schynige Platt with my daughter - I was really need to see schnigne platt after reading great reviews on other social media. It didn’t disappoint. The quaint train that took us up the mountain was expectedly, slow which was fine by me. Amazingly beautiful views of scenery on the way up and down. Then you arrive at the top. Gorgeous! The panoramic trail with the beautiful alpine flowers all over and so many other hiking trails to enjoy. Gorgeous views and scenery at every turn and such peaceful surroundings. We were blessed with a mostly beautiful sunny day to enjoy it all. After hiking, wondering around and just soaking in the scenery we had lunch at the restaurant. It was okay. Certainly wasn’t the highlight of our visit. Then back in old cogwheel train for the ride back down. It was a wonderful memorable day that we will not too soon forget. Highly recommended.

wonderful experience! - Awesome views - reasonable prices. Well worth the trip. The train ride up the mountain lends to stunning views. If you get the chance, ride in the open, old cars.

Slow Travel - Travelling by Schynige Platte Railway means:
Travelling like in old times. You need more than 50 minutes from Wilderswil to Schynige Platte - but you'll enjoy the time very much!
After the arrival you can hike to First (6 hrs.) or - this is my suggestion - to Daube and then back to the station (1 hrs.).
From Daube you have really spectacular views to the Lakes of Thun and Brienz as well
as to the Jungfrau Region and many other
mountains.

Great experience - Weather was top... super nice hike over the ridge with great views of Lake Brienz (Loucheralp) and finally very positively surprised by the mountain restaurant, top quality at prices that are totally ok for a mountain restaurant

Great experience, great weather, awesome nature - The stay and nature were spectacular. There were a lot of people there that day, but it spread well while hiking. It was always a bit scarce by train, but luckily 2 formations could be used.

Lovely afternoon - Lovely experience riding the little old train up and then going for a walk around the plateau. On exiting the train we were greeted with alpen horn players which was lovely.
The two cafes are really reasonable here, with the upper one having the best views.
We extended our walk to the Oberberghorn -which most other people weren't doing, but the view from the ridge and from the peak (up a couple of steep staircases) was amazing and well worth doing.

Making memories - Absolutely loved the train ride! The clouds rolled in so unfortunately our view wasn’t great but we made up for it as our 18 year old had a blast chasing and running in clouds! Highly recommend this as it’s reasonably priced and you will create some great memories.

Too bad the weather... - Unfortunately, the day was very cloudy and there was snow on arrival, so we did not see any views nor could we visit the botanical garden and much less make the hike on foot
