Absolutely incredible experience with amazing guides +for a much better price than others. - I want to start off by saying that I wasn’t so sure what to expect with this tour. I dragged my husband and 10 year old along for this because of my love for sea turtles, and they didn’t think it would be very “cool”. However, they both thought it was so amazing and worth the money! The tour guide, Anita, was extremely cool. Very witty, honest, friendly, and very knowledgeable and open about her family’s history of the island. She also cares very deeply about the sea turtles. She is very serious about making sure you do not touch them, and serious about putting your sunscreen on during the 45 minute drive from Hato caves to the sea turtle beach. This is due to the oils of the spf lotion not having time to absorb and then affecting the sea turtles when you’re in the water. She talked about her volunteer work with the local efforts to protect the sea turtles. She also spoke about a man who exploits the turtles at the beach by taking your picture with a sea turtle on your belly for $. She says how it is not good, and she is not happy about it, but she understands why tourists want to do it and that she can’t tell you not to. I thought that was very real and made me feel good that she was so protective of the turtles. She also spoke a lot about the history of the island. She spoke about the history of slavery on the island, certain stories including one about her own ancestors’ dark history of slavery. I thought it was important to learn about, and very touching when she spoke of the people of Curacao are not a traumatized people- that they are strong. I could go on and on- but I think you should absolutely experience her words for yourself if you’re so lucky to have Anita as your guide! Janet was also a wonderful bus driver- taking detours to ensure she could show us all of the important places. As far as the Caves, Turtles and Beach!: We first stopped to see the wild flamingos on our drive to the caves. We stopped to quietly get out and take some photos, and saw many many flamingos out on a salt flat! It was a great start to hype us up. Next, we drove to the Hato caves and began the tour. It was nice- the only complaints I saw in my tour group at the caves was about the stairs to get in, and one group complained that the tours are only done in English (I mention this in case you happen to be reading this and expecting them to also do the tour in Spanish/another language as well). But the caves were very beautiful, the fruit bats were cool to see, and it was also very beautiful outside of the caves! We get back in the bus for the 45 minute drive to Playa Piskado(Turtle beach). The bus was very comfortable, and thankfully air conditioned! Once we arrived at the beach, we donned our snorkels and hopped in. The water was slightly crowded, but not at all bad.. plus there are turtles EVERYWHERE! I couldn’t believe it. I also truly did not expect them to get as close to you as they do. Like.. they’re nearly(or are) bumping right into you or swimming underneath you. And i didn’t even see any chumming of the waters involved. They were everywhere! And the other beautiful fish were so cool to see. Also, you don’t have to get in the water if you do not want to. My husband (and many others) just watched the turtles from the dock that goes over the water. It was all worth it just for this stop! Finally, we head to Playa Kalki. The guide took our food order if we wanted to order ahead any food at the restaurant on the beach there. It was a quick drive over. It was mind blowingly gorgeous, and not at all crowded. Also, a section of ocean roped off for swimming/snorkeling that is much larger than some other beaches I have visited. There are also nice floating docks that you can swim to out in the water, and they have chairs on them for relaxing. My husband is usually not at all a beach person, but said it was the most beautiful, serene beach he had ever seen. It was very clear and very clean. It also had restrooms and showers to rinse off at. We were allowed to continue using our provided snorkel gear. I recommend snorkeling here if you are so inclined! We saw many colorful fish.. and also saw two eels! And someone in our group saw an octopus!! We didn’t expect that at all. After that, we return to the bus and we were dropped off right at our cruise ship inside the gates. All in all, this tour was 10/10. Very worth it for everything you get to experience. And I hope that you all get to have Anita as a guide if you do! This company was very professional and friendly, even texting me the morning of to make sure I could find their meet up spot. Thanks so much for reading- I didn’t want anyone to skip out on this one because they were wondering about anything, so I included as much as possible!
