- Williamsburg Inn - The licensed guide will greet visitors at the elegant Williamsburg Inn, located at 136 E. Francis Street, and transport them back to the 18th century. As the group strolls along Duke of Gloucester Street, they will enter a different, more leisurely-paced town. Participants will discover why the Colonists chose to separate from Great Britain. They will experience the sights, sounds, and aromas of the 1700s, when Virginia was the largest and wealthiest colony in British America.
- Colonial Williamsburg Capitol Building - Participants will be fully immersed in the 18th century as they walk along Duke of Gloucester Street, known as “the most historic street in America.” The tour will include a stop at the Capitol Building, where the Founding Fathers debated British taxation and ultimately proposed independence. Along the way, the group will pass bustling trades, merchant shops, and taverns. There may even be a visit to the dark jail cells and shackles of the Public Gaol (Jail), where Blackbeard’s pirates were held.
- Tarpley, Thompson, And Company - As the group continues down Duke of Gloucester Street, they will discuss Virginia’s role in declaring independence and chat about Colonial life in the capital city. They will see costumed interpreters and observe the busy shops, working trades, and taverns for hungry travelers where the Founding Fathers debated independence. The tour will include a stop at the Courthouse to share the punishments given to convicted criminals, and perhaps a photo opportunity with feet in the “stocks.”
- 300 Palace Green St - On the way to the magnificent Governor’s Palace, the group will pass horse-drawn carriages, possibly encounter a patriot, and walk up Palace Green to view the mansion that displayed the wealth and power of the British Empire.
- Merchants Square - The tour will conclude in the charming Merchants Square, featuring 40 quaint shops including gift shops, clothing stores like Talbot’s and Scotland House, and award-winning restaurants, ranging from fine dining to casual spots. Participants may want to enjoy a meal or go souvenir shopping. The guide will share their favorite spots!
