All the attractions listed below are must-see spots on your DMZ itinerary in Korea.
- Imjingak Pyeonghoa-Nuri Park - Originally established as a refuge for North Korean war refugees, Imjingak Park features symbolic monuments like the Freedom Bridge, Soldiers’ Memorial, and Peace Bell. Adjacent to it, Imjingak Pyeonghoa-Nuri Park offers a reflective space on Korea’s history, ongoing tensions, and hopes for peace. With monuments such as the Mangbaedan and a war-damaged steam locomotive, the area is a strong candidate for designation as an international peace park.
- Imjingak-ro - [North Korea Experience Hall] This newly popular attraction on the DMZ tour offers an educational insight into North Korea. Beyond a simple exhibition, it provides an immersive experience with fact-based content, including real testimonies from defectors and audiovisual documentaries, enhancing understanding of North Korea. This attraction complements the DMZ tour with Q&A sessions with defectors, offering a deeper insight into North Korean society.
- Gamaksan Chulleong Bridge - [Visit on Monday, National Holidays, if the 3rd Tunnel is closed only] Opened in 2016, this is South Korea’s longest mountain suspension bridge, offering a thrilling experience as if walking above the clouds. Named The Gloucester Heroes Bridge, it honors the Gloucestershire Regiment soldiers who defended Seolmari during the Korean War.
- The Third Tunnel - [Visit on Tuesday ~ Sunday] Discovered in 1978, this secret infiltration tunnel was built by North Korea in the 1970s as part of its military strategy. Located 52 kilometers from Seoul, the tunnel is 1,635 meters long, 1.95 meters high, and 2.1 meters wide, large enough for armed troops. Dora Park features sculptures conveying historical significance and a message of peace.
- Paju Imjingak Peace Gondola (DMZ Gondola) - [Visit on Monday, National Holidays, if the 3rd Tunnel is closed only] The Imjin River symbolizes hope for reunification and is home to Korea’s first gondola system crossing the river, spanning 850 meters and connecting Camp Greaves within the Civilian Control Line (CCL) area. Starting from Imjingak, the gondola offers panoramic views of the Jangdan Peninsula, Freedom Bridge, Dokgae Bridge, and Imjingak.
- Dora Observatory - [Visit on Tuesday ~ Sunday] One of the few places to witness Korea’s division, Dora Observatory offers views of the flagpole in Kijŏng-dong, North Korea’s southernmost village, visible with the naked eye or through a telescope. The observatory has indoor and outdoor areas, with the outdoor area sometimes closed due to weather or security.
- Jangsan-ro - [Visit on Monday, National Holidays, and when the 3rd Tunnel is closed only] Jangsan Natural Observatory offers stunning views from the Imjin River to North Korean mountain ranges. Originally a military area, it is now accessible to the public, located about a 10-minute walk from the parking lot. If weather conditions prevent a visit, the Odusan Unification Observatory will be visited instead.
- Tongilchon-gil - [Visit on Tuesday ~ Sunday] Tongilchon Village, within the Civilian Control Zone (CCZ), is known for its high-quality Jangdan soybeans, nurtured by the DMZ’s fertile soil and clean Imjin River waters. The village is self-sufficient, producing and selling various specialties.
- Gloster Hill Memorial Park - [Visit on Monday, National Holidays & if the 3rd Tunnel is closed only] This park honors the British Army Gloucester Regiment soldiers who fought in the Battle of Imjin River during the Korean War. Despite being surrounded by 42,000 Chinese soldiers, the Gloucester Battalion held out, earning the title “Glorious Gloucester.” The site was visited by Prince Charles in 1992 and Queen Elizabeth II in 1999. If weather prevents a visit, the War Memorial of Korea will be visited instead.
- Seoul City Hall - Due to large events and traffic around City Hall Station, if entry is difficult, the tour will end at Hongik Univ. Station (Hongdae). Please ensure all personal belongings are collected when exiting the vehicle.
- Dorasan Peace Park - [Visit on Tuesday ~ Sunday] The DMZ Theater offers an 8-minute film on the Korean conflict, providing South Korea’s perspective on the Korean War and the DMZ. The adjacent DMZ Exhibition Hall offers a deeper understanding of Korea’s history through photographs, documents, and relics, providing a profound insight into the conflict.
