Garni Temple - Arch of Charents:
The “Arch of Charents” monument was designed by architect Raphael Israelyan. During a visit to Garni, he paused at this spot and, captivated by the scenic view of Mount Ararat, decided to construct an arch as a “temple” to Ararat.
Garni Temple:
Garni Temple, perched on a triangular cape, is the only surviving example of pagan culture in Armenia. It combines Greco-Roman and Armenian architectural styles. King Trdat The First commissioned the temple in the first century AD, dedicating it to the Sun God. After Armenia adopted Christianity in 301, the pagan temple lost its importance, and the Garni fortress became the kings’ summer residence. Today, the ruins of the royal palace and a bathhouse with a stunning mosaic can be found near the temple.
The Monastery of Geghard - Geghard Monastery & Lavash Baking Master Class
Geghard Monastery is a remarkable 13th-century Armenian architectural wonder, partially carved into the rock. Initially named Ayrivank (cave monastery), it was later renamed Geghard, meaning “lance,” after the sacred lance believed to have pierced Jesus Christ and once housed there. The monastery is renowned for its spiritual ambiance, exquisite stone carvings, khachkars, and superb acoustics for sacred singing. It is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Lavash is a traditional Armenian food and a vital part of its culture. This soft, thin flatbread is baked in a tonir, an underground clay oven. The skillful process has been passed down through generations, particularly among Armenian women. Lavash is a daily staple, enjoyed with cheese, herbs, vegetables, and meat, and can be stored for extended periods. In 2014, UNESCO recognized it as Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Sevan - Lake Sevan
Lake Sevan, the “pearl” of mountainous Armenia, is one of the world’s largest high-altitude freshwater lakes, situated about 1900 meters above sea level. The lake, of volcanic origin, is encircled by mountains reaching 3000 meters and higher. The stunning landscape and crystal-clear water provide ideal conditions for relaxation. The lake is also renowned for its peninsula and medieval church complex, established in 874.
Sevanavank Monastery
A breathtaking view unfolds in the north-western part of Lake Sevan, where the peninsula rises above the lake’s clear surface. Sevanavank Monastery was constructed on the peninsula in 874 by the order of King Ashot Bagratuni’s daughter, Princess Mariam. The silhouette of the churches against the turquoise lake and blue sky leaves an indescribable impression on visitors.
