- Lake Sevan - Known as the “pearl” of mountainous Armenia, Lake Sevan is one of the world’s largest high-altitude freshwater lakes, situated approximately 1900 meters above sea level. This volcanic lake is encircled by mountains reaching 3000 meters and higher. The stunning scenery and pristine waters provide ideal conditions for a relaxing retreat. The lake is also renowned for its peninsula and the medieval church complex built in 874.
- Hayravank Monastery - Perched on a high rock along the shore of Lake Sevan, the Hayravank church lacks written records of its founding date. However, its architectural style places it among the 9th-century structures. This charming church, constructed from roughly hewn stone, presents a modest appearance.
- Noratus Cemetery - The art of khachkar, or cross-stone, is a unique expression of Armenian medieval culture. Noratus, often referred to as a forest of khachkars and an open-air museum, showcases hundreds of these stones, with the most remarkable being the “embroidered” ones from the 13th-14th centuries. This exceptional site allows visitors to explore the historical evolution of khachkar art. Armenian cross-stone art is recognized on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
- Vardenyats Pass (Selim Pass) - The Selim Pass, linking the Vayots Dzor and Gegharkunik regions, has served as a vital trade route since ancient times. Long caravans with loaded camels traversed this path. Recognizing the need for a resting place after arduous journeys, Armenian duke Chesar Orbelian commissioned the construction of a caravansary in 1332 along this winding road. This three-nave structure is illuminated solely by ceiling windows, as security concerns led to the absence of wall windows, and even today, the enigmatic darkness seems to preserve whispers from those distant days.
- Jermuk - Located in the northeastern part of Vayots Dzor, the renowned health resort Jermuk has been celebrated for its therapeutic mineral waters since the early medieval period. A special drinking gallery, featuring pump rooms with mineral water, has been built for visitors. The water temperature ranges from 30 to 50 degrees Celsius.
- Hin Areni Winery - Vayots Dzor, particularly the village of Areni, has been the heart of Armenian winemaking for thousands of years. The “Hin Areni” wine factory introduces the world to the region’s historic and native Armenian grape varieties. At the winery, traditional winemaking practices are seamlessly integrated with cutting-edge modern technology. The “Hin Areni” wine factory has the capacity to process over 250 tonnes of grapes.
