- Hashirimizu Shrine - Visit Hashirimizu Shrine to worship the spirit of the Japanese warrior, Yamato Takerunomikoto, and his wife Ototachibana hime, as chronicled in the 8th-century texts Nihon Shoki and Kojiki. The legends preserved at Hashimizu are treasured not only by the local community but also by people across Japan, shaping the moral values of the Japanese. According to the myth, while traveling by boat to Kazusa-no-kuni (now the southern part of Chiba Prefecture), they encountered a sudden storm. Ototachibana hime believed it to be the work of the sea god and offered herself to the sea to calm the storm, allowing Takerunomikoto and his party to safely reach Kazusa.
- Hashirimizu Shrine - At the entrance of Hashirimizu Shrine, you’ll find a Suikinkutsu, a traditional Japanese garden feature that creates a soothing sound as water droplets fall into a hollow near a water basin, providing a calming effect on the soul.
- Cape Kannonzaki - Located at the eastern tip of the Miura Peninsula, facing Tokyo Bay and the Uraga Channel, Kannonzaki was developed into a 70.4-hectare prefectural park in 1975. The name Kannonzaki dates back to 741 when Gyoki, a pioneering Buddhist priest, is said to have defeated a serpent in an underwater cave and enshrined the eleven-faced Goddess of Mercy. During the Edo period, a Kannon Hall was constructed. In the late Edo period (1800s), Japan, which had been isolated from the world, saw an influx of foreign ships. From 1880 until the end of World War II in 1945, Kannonzaki was a restricted Tokyo Bay fortification zone, preserving its natural environment. Today, visitors can enjoy the area’s near-pristine evergreen forests and the natural beauty of both the sea and mountains. Additionally, many of Japan’s first installations were established in this region due to its strategic location.
