Mount Sima - This waterfall ice climb is located in the backcountry near Whitehorse. The day begins at the Mt Sima Ski Hill rental shop, where participants select their gear for the adventure.
Once everyone is prepared, the journey to the trailhead takes about an hour by car.
From the trailhead, there is a 40-minute hike along a snowy path….

Once everyone is prepared, the journey to the trailhead takes about an hour by car.
From the trailhead, there is a 40-minute hike along a snowy path. Participants should be ready to carry a heavy pack with ice axes, crampons, and provisions for the day.
Upon reaching the destination, climbers will rope up and ascend a series of steps to the top of the waterfall. The guide will assist with tying into the rope and teach some basic ice climbing techniques.
Participants set their own pace, with ample opportunities throughout the day for snacks, hot drinks, and photos. After enjoying the waterfall adventure, the group will walk down the trail beside the waterfall (rappelling is not required) and reflect on the day’s experiences as they return to the vehicle.
The climbing portion lasts 3-4 hours. Including gearing up, travel, and breaks, this is a full-day tour.
No prior climbing experience is needed, but a moderate fitness level and comfort with hiking on snowy trails are beneficial.
