Day 1: Marrakech – Ounila Valley - Ait Ben Haddou - Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Zagora (L/D)

Zagora - The Private Marrakech to Erg Chigaga Desert Tour begins at 8 am from the accommodation Riad/Hotel in Marrakech. The journey crosses the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi-N-Tichka pass at 2260m/7500ft, the highest road pass in Africa, offering panoramic views of Berber villages and stunning landscapes.

The tour continues through the Ounila Valley with a stop to visit the Kasbah of Telouet. The journey proceeds along the Ounila Valley to the village of Ait Benhaddou, where lunch is served, followed by a visit to the UNESCO-listed Mud-brick Castle.

Passing through Ouarzazate, known as the Moroccan Hollywood due to its film industry, there is an optional visit to the Cinema Studios. The tour then heads towards the Low Atlas Mountains, with opportunities for photography in the canyons and Rocky Mountains. The journey continues through the Draa Valley, featuring a captivating palm grove, oases, and ancient Kasbahs, until reaching Zagora, known as the “Desert Door.”

Day 2: Zagora – Tamgroute – Mhamid – Erg Chegaga Desert Dunes (Including Camel Ride) (L/D)

Erg Chigaga - A pleasant walk through the palm grove and oases leads to the Jewish quarter to visit the Kasbah of Amzerou. The tour then proceeds to the 16th-century village of Tamegroute, where visitors can explore the Koranic school and its library, the Underground Kasbah, and the green pottery makers.

Lunch is in Mhamid, with two options:

1. Restaurant in Mhamid
2. Picnic in the Desert (organized by the driver).

The tour leaves the tarmac road for off-road travel, navigating stones and sand dunes for two hours, with a stop at the oases. Thirty minutes later, the tour arrives at Erg Chigaga, the largest dunes in the region, before sunset. Here, vehicles are exchanged for camels for a one-hour trek on the sand dunes during sunset, an ideal time for photography as the sand turns red against the sky. Upon arrival at the Desert camp, guests check into their private tents and enjoy a special evening with dinner, a campfire, drum players, and Berber music.

Day 3: Erg Chegaga - Marrakech

Marrakech - Witness the sunrise from the top of the dunes, where the sand’s color contrasts beautifully with the sky and sun. After breakfast, the tour heads northwest towards Foum-Zguid for three hours off-road, stopping at Iriqui Lake, a surprisingly dry lake in the middle of nowhere. The next stop is at the fossil beds for a fossil hunt. The journey continues along the mountain ridges of Jebel Bani and acacia tree groves.

A break is taken upon returning to the tarmac road at Foum-Zguid village. After a one-hour drive, lunch is served at Taznakht village, with an optional visit to the women’s cooperative for carpet weaving, for which Taznakht is renowned. The tour proceeds through the Atlas Mountains, concluding around 6 pm at the accommodation Riad/Hotel in Marrakech, marking the end of the Private Marrakech to Erg Chigaga Desert Tour.
