- Krapina Neanderthal Museum - After about an hour’s drive, we will arrive at the Krapina Neanderthal Museum, one of Croatia’s most modern museums, located at the world’s largest site of Neanderthal fossils. A visit to the museum will take you on an evolutionary journey based on the latest scientific findings, from cosmic and chemical evolution to realistic representations of our ancestors. The museum’s unique and innovative presentation makes it suitable for everyone, from children and students to laypersons and scientists.
Please note that the museum is closed on Mondays.
- Trakoscan Castle (Dvor Trakoscan) - A short drive from Krapina brings us to Trakošćan, the most famous and best-preserved castle in Croatia. The castle was initially built in the late 13th or early 14th century as a small defensive fortress. The Trakošćan complex we see today, a romanticist blend of architecture and nature, is a result of 19th-century renovations. The castle was reconstructed in a neo-Gothic style, and the surrounding landscape, including a lake, was designed after the model of an English park. For the past 60 years, Trakošćan has housed a valuable collection of paintings, furniture, and weapons from the Renaissance to Historicism.
- Staro selo museum - From Trakošćan, we will drive through picturesque landscapes and villages to reach Kumrovec, the birthplace of Marshal Josip Broz Tito (1892–1980), the president of Yugoslavia. Tito’s birth house features the Memorial Museum of Marshal Tito, and next to the house is a bronze statue of him. The old part of the village, Kumrovec, includes the Ethnological Museum with 18 village houses displaying permanent exhibitions of artifacts related to the life and work of Zagorje peasants in the 19th and 20th centuries.
After the sightseeing tour, your guide can recommend a restaurant serving traditional local food for a late lunch before your return to Zagreb.
