• Prison Island - Changuu Private Island - Prison Island also known as Changuu Island lies about 25 - 30 minutes by wooden motorized boat from Zanzibar Stone Town and this is where you will visit the Prison Ruins built by General Lloyd Mathews in 1893 and hence the name Prison Island. The Tour includes the visit to the Sanctuary of Aldabra’s giant tortoises brought by British Governor of Seychelles in 1919 as a gift to Sultan of Zanzibar. During the tour, you will be able to visit the sanctuary for the land giant tortoises, peacocks and the prison ruins. The Tour will also provide you with the chance to swim in the clear crystal water, sunbathe and snorkel at the nearest coral reef before you find your way back to Nakupenda for another experience.

The journey typically begins in Stone Town, where a motorized boat ride of approximately 25 minutes takes participants to Prison Island. Here, visitors can explore the Sanctuary of Giant Land Tortoises, admire peacocks, visit the Prison Ruins, and enjoy the beach. Following this, another boat ride of about 35 minutes transports guests to Nakupenda, where the majority of the tour is spent. At Nakupenda, activities include swimming, snorkeling, photography, and savoring a seafood lunch with a beach BBQ prepared by our dedicated staff.

The tour concludes back in Stone Town, the final segment of the journey. Here, participants can explore various historical buildings, small bazaars, souvenir shops, and the Stone Town Market, all with guidance from our professional guide.
