Zhangjiajie National Forest Park: Avatar Mountain, Tianzi Mountain

BaiLong Elevator - Recognized as the fastest and tallest outdoor elevator globally, the 326-meter-tall glass Bailong Elevator is built into a cliff in the national park, offering breathtaking views of the karst formations. It takes just 88 seconds to reach Yuanjiajie.

Yuanjiajie - Upon reaching the mountain’s summit, Yuanjiajie unveils the mysterious “Pandora World.” During the thrilling hike, prepare to admire the South Sky Pillar, approximately 150 meters high, the true inspiration for Avatar’s Hallelujah Mountain. Enjoy the stunning scenery at Enchanting Platform, with numerous beautiful stone peaks resembling nutritious bamboo shoots rising from the ground.

Tianzi Mountain - Take a shuttle bus to explore Tianzi Mountain. Walk to Helong Park, the best viewpoint to closely admire the incredible and magnificent stone peaks. The most captivating photos of Tianzi Mountain’s four wonders are taken here, including the mists and clouds, moonlight, rays of sunshine, and winter snow. The top attraction on Tianzi Mountain is Xihai Peak Forest. Afterward, descend via the Tianzi Cablecar, with groups of rock formations passing by your glass window.

Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon with Glass Bridge; Yellow Dragon Cave

The Grand Canyon of Zhangjiajie - Travel to Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, approximately 45 minutes from Zhangjiajie City.

Walk on the Glass Bridge, the highest and longest transparent glass bridge in the world. Spanning 430 meters in length and 6 meters in width, the Grand Canyon Glass Bridge stands 300 meters above ground and can support 800 people simultaneously.

Explore the main attractions in Zhangjiajie Great Canyon: One-Line-Sky, Family Portrait, The Millennial Ancient Rattan, Chuangwang Pavilion, the Southern Red Flag Canal, Zhuaxian Spring, Rotten Ship Rock, The Bandit Hole, and the World’s Highest See-through Skywalk Bridge, among others.

Yellow Dragon Cave - Next, visit Yellow Dragon Cave, celebrated as one of China’s most beautiful caves. It resembles an underground “magical palace,” featuring expansive caves, deep underground rivers, hanging waterfalls, and dense stone bamboo shoots, each with its unique charm.

The tour concludes around 4:00 pm, after which you will be taken back to your hotel for a restful evening.

Huangshi Village; Golden Whip Brook

Huangshi Village - Spend the entire day in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, taking a cable car up to Yellow Stone Village. There’s a saying: If you haven’t visited Yellow Stone Village, it’s as if you haven’t been to Zhangjiajie. Popular attractions at the mountain’s summit include Pick-up Star Platform, Five Fingers Peak, and Front Garden.

Golden Whip Brook - In the afternoon, visit Golden Whip Brook, located in Zhangjiajie National Forest Park. The stream flows through the park, covering 4.7 miles (7.5 kilometers) from north to south, winding along the mountains and valleys. It remains clear year-round, with many scenic spots along its course. Enjoy the crisp, fresh air while exploring the beautiful valleys, and be ready to encounter some wild monkeys.

Tianmen Mountain; Departure from Zhangjiajie

Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park - Your tour guide and driver will pick you up from your Zhangjiajie hotel lobby and transfer you to the Tianmenshan National Forest Park Cable Car Station. Then, take the cable car uphill to explore Tianmen Mountain.

As the highest mountain in Zhangjiajie, Tianmen Mountain is a must-see, renowned for its natural beauty and thrilling experiences, such as the 999 steps to Heaven and the glass cliff walkways, which captivate visitors worldwide.

The tour concludes at approximately 4:00 pm.

After the tour, you will be driven to Zhangjiajie airport/train station/bus station for your next destination.

Amazing tour of Zhangjiajie with Jean - We had an amazing 4 day tour with Jean our English speaking tour guide who grew up in this region and went to university to study English and Linguistics. The first day we went up avatar mountain to see the amazing towering rock formations and had a delicious lunch at an authentic Hunan restaurant in the park. Then proceeded up to Tianzi mountain in the afternoon to view more amazing rock formations. The second day we went to the “grand canyon” to walk across the glass bridge, take the incredible zip line across the canyon and then descended the slide down to the stream where we walked through an beautiful narrow slot canyon. Then back up an elevator and across the bridge again. Lunch at a 5 star restaurant in town. In the afternoon we explored the Huangloongdong cave area which is truly enormous and has some beautiful stalagmite formations. The third day Jean took us to the South Gate / Zhangjiajie state forest where we took a cable car up to Taizi mountain to see more amazing rock formations (this was the original/first park that made Zhangjiajie famous). We were able to look across a huge canyon and see the viewing platform of our day 1 tour. In the afternoon we came back down the valley and strolled along the golden whip stream for several peaceful kilometers. This day we saw the most monkeys. Sometimes families of monkeys would raid the bags of careless tourists. Other times they were peacefully foraging along the beautiful stream bed or in the branches of chestnut trees. The last day we took the worlds best cable car directly from the city up to Tianmen mountain where we walked a loop around the top to see amazing views and glass walkways. Finally coming to the top of heavens gate ( a huge natural cave big enough for a small plane to fly through). From here we could see the platform where famous athletes come to compete in hang gliding and flying suits as they jump from the highest point above the gate. Then we descended through a tunnel of escalators to the base of heavens gate cave for pictures. Some took escalators down from here. I descended the 999 steps ( 9 is a lucky number here). Finally we exited past the theatre where they perform the fox lady drama every evening employing 700 actors. We want to thank Jean for guiding us through all the attractions and quickly finding all the best views and photo spots. She provided many explanations about the history of the park and local culture. Also thanks to our tour director Andy who arranged everything including car transportation from Yichang through the amazing, brand new highway of tunnels.

Top - Visiting the Avatar Mountains in Zhangjiajie was a dream come true, and having Max as our guide made it even better. He knew the best viewpoints and times to visit, so we could fully enjoy the stunning landscapes without the crowds. His explanations about the area, culture, and the link with the Avatar movie added so much value to the experience. The scenery was absolutely magical, and Max’s guidance made the whole day smooth, fun, and unforgettable. Highly recommended

Amazing - We have already done many tours, but the tour with Zhangjaijai was without doubt the best ever. We compared a lot, and fortunately we chose this one – it was a perfect choice. Our guide took all the time for us, was incredibly attentive and showed us the most beautiful, often hidden spots. Everything was taken care of to perfection and the experience was unforgettable. Definitely recommended for anyone who wants to discover Zhangjaijai!

5 Stars Service - We did a 5-day private tour, and everything was exceptional. The agency and our tour guide, Max, were incredibly accommodating. Max went above and beyond—from dawn to dusk—to take care of every detail from A to Z. I especially appreciated skipping the long lines at park entrances. Highly recommend their service!

Perfect guide - The tour was perfect for my 80 year old mom. It was well planned for people who like slow-paced tour to explore captivating sites. Also, without the thoughtful guide, John (Xiao he), we couldn't enjoy the trip so much! He was always made sure my mom is safe and helped her going up and down stairs!

If you want to say wow and be amazed, take this tour. - It was an incredible trip. I recommend everyone to live this amazing experience. The landscapes look like they came straight out of a book, with an amazing and spectacular guide who keeps you informed and takes you to the best places. There is so much to discover and a lot of fun ahead.

Costum-made itinerary for Zhangjiajie - I contacted the company directly since none of the trips I could find in the platforms had all the activities I wanted together. I sent them a list of things I wanted to do and they fixed a 3 day itinerary with a guide and a driver. Our guide, Nina, was very sweet. She explained many things to us. We were able to do everything at our own pace, we never felt rushed, concussed or lost. Very efficient trip. Both, the driver and guide, were very thoughtful and we always felt well taken cared of. They e?3n alerted us of our delayed flight so we wouldn’t wait in the airport. Nina took us all the way to the airport to help with check in and security to make sure we were ok. Very good service.
