Qingdao – Zhengzhou-Shaolin Temple-Luoyang (L)

Shaolin Temple - The driver will collect the operator from their hotel lobby in Qingdao and transport them to the airport for a 2.5-hour flight to Zhengzhou.

Upon arrival, the operator will meet a friendly local tour guide and be directly transferred to the Shaolin Temple (approximately a 1.5-hour drive). During the journey, the tour guide will share the history of the Shaolin Temple, while the operator enjoys the scenic countryside.

Shaolin Temple - Renowned for Chinese Kung Fu, the Shaolin Temple offers the opportunity to witness authentic Kung Fu demonstrations by Shaolin monks. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the temple was initially built in 495 A.D. Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-557) commissioned the temple to house the Indian master Batuo. Recognized as the birthplace of Chan Buddhism and the cradle of Kung Fu, the Shaolin Temple holds significant cultural importance. With the guidance of a knowledgeable tour guide, the operator will learn about the temple’s history, culture, and stories.

Pagoda Forest of Shaolin Temple - The next stop is the Pagoda Forest, a collection of tomb pagodas for distinguished monks and abbots of the temple. With over 240 tomb pagodas of varying sizes from the Tang, Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties (618-1911), it is the largest pagoda forest in China.

After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, the operator will relax during the 1.5-hour drive to Luoyang, where they will be transferred to their accommodation.

Luoyang-Longmen Grottoes - White Horse Temple (B,L)

Longmen Grottoes - The tour guide will pick up the operator at the scheduled time and head directly to the Longmen Grottoes.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Longmen Grottoes feature over 2,300 caves and niches carved into steep limestone cliffs along a 1km stretch. It is the largest and most impressive collection of Chinese art from the late Northern Wei and Tang Dynasties (316-907). With the assistance of a knowledgeable tour guide, the operator will also visit the Fengxian Temple and the Wanfo Cave.

Following this, the operator will enjoy a boat ride to take in the stunning panoramic views of the Longmen Grottoes.

White Horse Temple - Next, the tour guide will lead the operator to explore the White Horse Temple.

Established in 68 CE by Emperor Ming in the Eastern Han Dynasty’s capital, the White Horse Temple is the first Buddhist temple built in China. The operator will explore the halls and pavilions with the guide, learning about the history and culture of Buddhism.

After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant, the operator can choose to conclude their tour in Luoyang/Zhengzhou or return to Qingdao.
