Shanghai – Zhengzhou (L)

Shaolin Temple - The driver will collect guests from their hotel lobby in Shanghai and transport them to the Shanghai Railway Station. The morning train to Zhengzhou takes approximately 5 hours.

Upon arrival, guests will be greeted by a friendly local tour guide and transferred directly to Shaolin Temple (about a 1.5-hour drive). During the journey, the tour guide will share the history of Shaolin Temple, and guests can enjoy the scenic countryside views.

Upon reaching Shaolin Temple, guests will stop at a local restaurant to savor a delicious lunch.

Shaolin Temple is renowned for Chinese Kung Fu. Guests will have the opportunity to witness authentic Kung Fu performed by Shaolin monks. As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Shaolin Temple was initially built in 495 A.D. Emperor Xiaowen of the Northern Wei Dynasty (386-557) commissioned the temple to house the Indian master Batuo. Recognized as the birthplace of Chan Buddhism and the cradle of Kung Fu, Shaolin Temple holds significant cultural importance. With the guidance of a knowledgeable tour guide, guests will learn about the temple’s history, culture, and stories.

Pagoda Forest of Shaolin Temple - Guests will then explore the Pagoda Forest, which contains tomb pagodas for the temple’s eminent monks and abbots.

The forest features over 240 tomb pagodas of various sizes from the Tang, Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties (618-1911), making it the largest pagoda forest in China.

Afterward, guests will be transferred to their accommodation at either the Shaolin Temple hotel or a 4-star hotel in Luoyang.

Luoyang - Shanghai (B, L)

Longmen Grottoes - After breakfast, the tour guide will meet guests at the prearranged time and proceed directly to Longmen Grottoes.

As a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Longmen Grottoes consist of over 2,300 caves and niches carved into steep limestone cliffs along a 1km stretch. It is the largest and most impressive collection of Chinese art from the late Northern Wei and Tang Dynasties (316-907). With the assistance of a knowledgeable tour guide, guests will also visit the Fengxian Temple and the Wanfo Cave.

After enjoying a delicious lunch at a local restaurant, the tour guide will escort guests to Luoyang Railway Station for their train back to Shanghai (approximately 6 hours). Upon arrival, a driver will pick them up at Shanghai Railway Station and return them to their hotel in Shanghai City.

Guests also have the option to conclude their tour in Luoyang when booking.

Note: Guests will travel by train independently, and the local English-speaking tour guide will meet them in Zhengzhou.
