Terrific - well done Anna - Anna our bi/tri-lingual guide ensured that we kept to time for this very full nine hour tour. We started promptly and were off to Shifen where the hot air lanterns are lit. There is a lot of culture and history here, but this small village is now 100% focussed on the tourists who flock here in their busload. It’s a novelty to have a real train line running through the middle of the town which keeps everyone alert, but the many warning lights and bells signal its slow arrival well in advance. Nevertheless, it quite a sight and the health and safety police in other countries would be apoplectic. After the tour, it was the waterfall – just a few minutes away by coach and then a 15 min walk over the wonderful (and recently renovated) suspension bridge that wobbled - just a bit. The waterfall is lovely and makes for many a photogenic picture. Lunch and early afternoon was [ ] – I am not sure why we joined most of the province in these narrow, claustrophobic streets. I believe that a famous Japanese show was filmed here, which explains why half the 22 participants on the tour were Japanese which Anna spoke fluently. Then to the rock formations which were wonderful – it was lovely to be able to walk amongst these extraordinary and ancient weathered rocks which have acquired their distinctive shape through thousands of year. There were fossils emerging on the sand – very spooky. Excellent and unforgettable. The last stop was the food market in Shaoshan which was excellent with great variety even though it was heaving. I enjoyed the day – well worth the money.

Super complete tour full of great experiences - This is an excellent tour. You get to enjoy nature, food, as well as many memorable local experiences. I appreciated the great work Joseph did to keep us all on time and on track, which can be difficult with a big group of tourists! There's a lot of fun to be had in this tour, but my favorite was visiting Jiufen in the evening. It's a really magical place to walk around when it's dark and the lanterns are on. A group of us followed Joseph for a recommended (but optional) meal at a historic tea house, and the experience was wonderful. This was one of my favorite tours while in Taiwan. Highly recommended.

Great day tour - The Full-Day Tour in Shifen, Jiufen & Yehliu was day well spend. So amazing parts of the Taipei region. Our tour guide Kelly was absolute superstar and made the trip fun learning experience. As vegan travelers we thought it would be difficult to get food but Kelly took good care of us and always pointed out the vegan options and when not sure went to ask the vendor for us.

Get/request Michael for a great tour!! - Michael was our tour guide and I recommend him. He was very nice and helped us get around. He worked to ensure that the tickets were paid for and gave us plenty of opportunities to use the restroom. He started by giving us a few fun facts about the place, was always good at getting pictures, and translated for us. As a Taiwanese-American with limited Mandarin and Taiwanese, he didn't make me feel uncomfortable that I didn't know the language. My non-Chinese friend was here and he helped her get around as well. After giving us the facts, Michael let us do our own things with a few tips and tricks.

Love places to see outside of Taipei City - Places to visited in the itinerary are good. Disappointed with the one hour timing for Shifen's lantern and waterfalls. For no matter what we cannot both have lantern and waterfall in just one hour as they are in different path. One way take 15mins walk, 15mins lantern, 15mins go back to center meeting point. That we missed to see one important place. Jufen ia nice so crowded but we managed to make it in time. The geopark is another 1hr and 20mins time and need to rush again ro go back. But overall it was still satifying to see placea in short time.

Worse than cheap mainland China tours - The tour company stuffed four people into a Nissan Sentra (read: a compact car) for a full day tour. This isn’t abnormal in Asia but just be aware it may happen. The guide will try to bring you shopping and to product sales pitches, which I dislike but if others in your group want to do it, you’ll have to wait for them. The guide was knowledgeable but he rushed through everything quickly.
