Wander through the Old Town with its cobblestone streets and charming architecture, home to historic churches like Grossmünster and Fraumünster. Dive into art and history at local museums, including the FIFA museum. Alternatively, climb Lindenhof hill for panoramic views of the city center and the river Limmat.

Lake Geneva and Lausanne

Geneva - Begin your Swiss road trip by picking up your rental car and heading towards the picturesque Lake Geneva. On your way, pass through Bern, the quaint yet captivating Swiss capital, rich in cultural and historical landmarks with a heritage dating back to the 12th century. The medieval Old Town, or “Altstadt,” is well-preserved and recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Continue your journey to the French-speaking city of Lausanne, where you will spend the night. Situated on the shores of Lake Geneva, known locally as “Lac Léman,” Lausanne is the birthplace of the modern Olympics. The historic center is easily walkable, featuring cobblestone streets and vibrant buildings.

Route to Matterhorn

The Matterhorn - Today, leave the scenic Lake Geneva behind as you drive into the Alps. Your first stop is the serene town of Montreux, where you can visit the medieval Château de Chillon castle. Continue through the stunning Rhone Valley towards the town of Sion, known for its two hilltop fortresses. Admire the historic architecture and lush scenery as you proceed to Zermatt. From here, you can marvel at the majestic Matterhorn, a symbol of Switzerland, providing a breathtaking photo backdrop.

The Route to Interlaken and Grindelwald

Grindelwald - Continue your alpine drive to Grindelwald. Along the way, stop at charming towns in the Thurnersee (Lake Thun) region, such as Spiez, Thun, and Sigriswil. Cross Interlaken to reach the alpine village of Grindelwald, offering views of the famous Mt. Eiger and the towering peaks of Mönch and Jungfrau. This area is perfect for exploring trails, whether in the town or the surrounding mountains.

From Mountain Peaks to Lake Lucerne

Lucerne - Drive to Lucerne, a picturesque city on the shores of Lake Lucerne. Spend your afternoon exploring the city, admiring its stunning medieval architecture. Be sure to visit Kapellbrücke (“Chapel Bridge”), the iconic wooden bridge built in 1333, linking the Old Town to the opposite riverbank. Other highlights include the Musegg city wall with its nine towers, the Jesuit Church, and the Lion Monument, a sculpture carved into rock by Icelandic artist Bertel Thorvaldsen, dedicated to the Swiss Guards who perished during the French Revolution.

Mt Pilatus and Return to Zurich

Zurich - Before returning to Zurich, seize the chance for another breathtaking alpine view. Head to Kriens to take the gondola and cable car to the summit of Mount Pilatus, over 2,000 meters (7,000 feet) above sea level. Enjoy sweeping views of the Alps as you ascend. Then, follow the scenic drive along Lake Lucerne’s shores, passing through quaint villages with lush hillsides. Consider a boat tour on the lake for a different perspective of the enchanting surroundings. Conclude your road trip by returning to Zurich, where you can spend the rest of the day at your leisure.

Departure from Switzerland

Zurich - Today marks the end of your Swiss adventure. To reach the airport, take a taxi or train from the city center in time for your departure flight. A private transfer can also be arranged for your convenience. If your flight is later in the day, enjoy your final moments in Zurich. Go shopping, pick up last-minute souvenirs, relax in a café, or visit one more city attraction.
