- Agra Fort - Following the Taj Mahal, visit Agra Fort, a historic fort located in Agra, India. It served as the primary residence for the Mughal Dynasty emperors until 1638, when the capital moved from Agra to Delhi. Before the British took control, the Marathas were the last Indian rulers to occupy it.
- Itmad-ud-Daula - Situated on the eastern bank of the Yamuna River, this mausoleum is nestled in a large cruciform garden intersected by water channels and pathways. The mausoleum itself spans approximately twenty-three meters square and is elevated on a base about fifty meters square and one meter high. Each corner features hexagonal towers, approximately thirteen meters tall.
The walls are crafted from white marble sourced from Rajasthan, adorned with semi-precious stone inlays: cornelian, jasper, lapis lazuli, onyx, and topaz, forming images of cypress trees and wine bottles, or more intricate designs like cut fruit or vases with bouquets. Light filters into the interior through delicate jali screens of intricately carved white marble.
Many of Nūr Jahān’s relatives are buried in the mausoleum. The only asymmetrical aspect of the entire complex is the side-by-side placement of her parents’ cenotaphs, a design mirrored in the Taj Mahal.
