Exploring Antigua’s Hidden Treasures: An ATV Adventure
Craving a break from the waves, I embarked on an ATV adventure through the vibrant villages of Antigua Guatemala. Guided by the passionate Adrian, I discovered hidden cultural gems and tasted local delights, making for an unforgettable journey.
Revving Up for Adventure
As a seasoned traveler and surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the rhythm of the ocean and the laid-back vibes of beach towns. But every now and then, I crave a different kind of thrill—one that takes me off the beaten path and into the heart of local culture. That’s exactly what I found in Antigua Guatemala with the ATV Village Adventure tour. From the moment I met our guide, Adrian, I knew this was going to be an unforgettable experience. His enthusiasm was infectious, and his knowledge of the region was impressive.
We kicked off our adventure with a quick briefing on how to handle the ATVs. Once we were geared up, we hit the road, leaving the cobblestone streets of Antigua behind. The wind in my hair and the sun on my face reminded me of those perfect days riding waves, but this time, I was riding through lush landscapes and vibrant villages.
Discovering Hidden Gems
Our first stop was San Juan del Obispo, a charming village known for its artisanal chocolate. As a lover of all things sweet, I was in heaven. The chocolate tasting was a sensory delight, and learning about the traditional methods used by local families added a rich layer to the experience. Adrian’s passion for sharing these hidden gems was evident, and it made the visit all the more special.
Next, we ventured to the Museo del Níspero, where we were introduced to the art of crafting fruit-based liquors. The flavors were as vibrant as the stories behind them, and I couldn’t help but appreciate the dedication that goes into each bottle. A quick stop in San Gaspar Vivar offered a picturesque backdrop for photos, capturing the essence of this beautiful town.
A Taste of Tradition
San Pedro Las Huertas was a highlight for me, with its traditional jade craftsmanship and historic public washing sinks. It was a glimpse into a world where ancient practices are still very much alive. The artisans’ skill and dedication were inspiring, and it was a reminder of the rich cultural tapestry that makes this region so unique.
Our final stop was the Valhalla Macadamia Farm, where we learned about sustainable farming practices and indulged in some delicious macadamia treats. The tour wrapped up with an optional visit to Cervecería 14, a local craft brewery. Sipping a cold beer while reflecting on the day’s adventures was the perfect way to end the tour.
Adrian’s professionalism and genuine love for his work shone through every moment of the tour. His thoughtful approach ensured that everyone felt comfortable and engaged, making this experience truly memorable. If you’re looking for an authentic and well-paced exploration of Antigua and its surrounding villages, this tour is a must-do. It’s a 10/10 adventure that I can’t recommend enough!
