Riding High: An Exhilarating Adventure in Antigua’s Mountains

When the mountains of Antigua Guatemala called, I couldn’t resist the allure of the Antigua Sky High Adventure. This thrilling journey promised breathtaking views and an exhilarating ride through the colonial city’s heights and surrounding volcanoes.

A Thrilling Ride Through Antigua’s Heights

As a seasoned traveler and surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean’s embrace, but every now and then, the mountains call my name. This time, it was the allure of Antigua Guatemala’s breathtaking landscapes that beckoned me. The Antigua Sky High Adventure promised an exhilarating journey through the colonial city’s heights and its surrounding volcanoes, and I couldn’t resist the call.

Our adventure began with a heart-pounding ride on ATVs, a mode of transport that added an extra layer of excitement to the experience. Dorian, our guide, was a beacon of calm and expertise, ensuring our small group stayed together despite the occasional interruption from local traffic. The first stop, Cerro de la Cruz, offered a panoramic view of Antigua that was nothing short of spectacular. The city sprawled below us, a tapestry of history and culture framed by the majestic volcanoes that stood sentinel around the valley.

Discovering the Magic of Alta Mira

Our journey continued to Alta Mira, a place that felt like stepping into a dream. The eco-park, perched high in the mountains, was a haven of art and nature. Sculptures and eco-art installations dotted the landscape, each accompanied by quotes that sparked reflection and inspiration. Despite my usual preference for the ocean’s horizon, I found myself captivated by the celestial views and the serenity of the mountains.

The park’s famous “hands” and the giant sculpture of Jeffrey were irresistible photo opportunities, even for someone like me who usually shies away from heights. The climb back to the entrance was a challenge, a reminder of the physical demands of this adventure, but the reward was worth every step. Alta Mira was a place where time seemed to stand still, allowing us to soak in the beauty and tranquility of our surroundings.

A Perfect Ending at Earth Lodge

Our final destination was the Earth Lodge, an avocado plantation and eco-lodge nestled in the mountains. It was the perfect place to unwind after the day’s adventures. The views were as stunning as ever, and the menu offered delicious, healthy options that were a welcome treat after the physical exertion of the day.

Relaxing at the Earth Lodge, I reflected on the day’s journey. The thrill of the ATVs, the awe-inspiring views, and the camaraderie of our small group made for an unforgettable experience. While the climbs were challenging, they were a small price to pay for the memories we created. For those who seek adventure and are willing to embrace the physical demands, the Antigua Sky High Adventure is a journey worth taking. Just remember to pack your sense of adventure and a good pair of hiking boots!
