- Materuni Waterfalls - Materuni is the home of the Chagga tribe and remains an authentic tribal village. This delightful location is just 15km from Moshi Town and 85 km from Arusha (a 2-hour drive) and is the last village before reaching Kilimanjaro National Park.
Upon arrival, visitors will register at the village office to begin their journey.
The first stop is the waterfalls, which are about a 40-minute walk away. Along the way, the guide will share insights about the Chagga culture, village life, and the local flora and fauna. The views are truly stunning, and with some luck, the summit of Kilimanjaro will be visible. Upon reaching the waterfalls, visitors will find them to be over 80 meters high. The pool at the base of the waterfall is perfect for a refreshing swim, so remember to bring swimwear!
After enjoying the scenery, guests will leisurely return with their guide to Materuni village, where a traditional Chagga lunch awaits. There will also be an opportunity to taste the local banana beer, which is a must-try!
But there’s more.
Next, the coffee experience awaits. Here, visitors will learn about coffee cultivation, drying, roasting, and processing. They will also be invited to participate in grinding the coffee, traditionally accompanied by Chagga songs and dances – a fun way to engage with the local culture. Guests can savor the coffee they helped make while enjoying the views of the surrounding rainforest.
Additionally,
Visitors will head to Chemka Hot Springs, where they can dip their toes into the warm spring water and enjoy a natural fish pedicure, as the fish nibble away dead skin. This is a truly fascinating activity.
In the evening, guests will bid farewell and return to Arusha, where complimentary accommodation will be provided.
