Arrival at Aswan – Aswan Visits & Embarkation on the Cruise
Aswan - Upon reaching Aswan city, a representative from Canary Tours will greet you and assist with your transfer to your Lake Nasser Nile Cruise for embarkation and check-in. Lunch will be served on board the Nile Cruise.
Aswan High Dam - Later, join your Egyptologist tour guide to explore the remarkable city of Aswan, including The High Dam, constructed by Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser in 1960 AD to safeguard Egypt from the Nile flood. Following this, enjoy a motorboat ride on the Nile River to Agilika Island, where you will visit the Temple of Philae, built during the Greco-Roman period and dedicated to the goddess Isis (mother of the god Horus). Finally, you will be escorted to one of Aswan’s marvelous sights, The Unfinished Obelisk, crafted from red granite and dedicated to the god Amun Ra. After completing your day tour, return to your ship for an overnight stay.
Kalabsha Temple – Sail to Wadi El Sebou
New Kalabsha - Enjoy breakfast on board your ship, then join your Egyptologist tour guide to explore the Temple of Kalabsha. Situated within view of the High Dam, Kalabsha Temple is often the first stop for any cruise on Lake Nasser. It was relocated to this site from its original location 30 miles to the south after the dam’s construction. The result is a fascinating blend of imagery featuring Egyptian and Roman themes, with depictions of Roman emperors and pharaohs worshipping alongside Egyptian gods. The temple was dedicated to the Nubian god Mandulis. You will also visit Bait El Wali, which was rescued from Lake Nasser by a Polish archaeological team funded by a joint Oriental Institute of Chicago/Swiss Institute of Cairo Project. The temple itself was built on a symmetrical cruciform plan. After the visit, return to the cruise for refreshments and lunch on board, then the cruise will sail to Wadi El Sebou, passing by the Tropic of Cancer.
Visit of Wadi El Sebou & Dakka
Temple of Wadi El-Sebua - Enjoy breakfast on board the ship, then head to Wadi El Sebou. The name in Arabic means “Valley of the Lions,” referring to the avenue of sphinxes leading up to this temple, built during the reign of Ramesses II. Although it was relocated to its current site in the 1960s, it was quickly forgotten and neglected. Return to the ship for lunch, then the boat will sail to Amada.
Visit of Kasr Ibrim & Abu Simbel
Abu Simbel - Begin with an early sail to Kasr Ibrim. View Kasr Ibrim from the sundeck. The Citadel of Kasr Ibrim was once a formidable city high above the Nile River, but today it appears as an island due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam. Then sail to Abu Simbel to visit the Abu Simbel Temple. Located on the west bank of the Nile River, between the first and second cataracts of the Nile, the site of Abu Simbel is one of Egypt’s most recognizable ancient sites. It contains two temples carved into a mountainside, built by Pharaoh Ramesses II (1303-1213 B.C). Abu Simbel today is no longer in its original location. Following the decision to build a new High Dam at Aswan in the early 1960s, the temples were dismantled and relocated in 1968 on the desert plateau 64 meters (about 200 feet) above and 180 meters (600 feet) west of their original site. The area where they were originally located is now flooded.
Abu Simbel - In the evening, enjoy a captivating Sound & Light Show at Abu Simbel Temple. The Sound and Light show at Abu Simbel will transport you to the time of the pharaohs, enchanting you with melodious music and bringing the ancient world to life around you. The show includes projections into the temples, illustrating how they once appeared. The program is available in several languages with the provision of ear pieces. It is an experience not to be missed, creating a lasting memory of your visit to Abu Simbel.
