Begin the tour with a visit to the renowned Acropolis, the most crucial ancient site of Western civilization, a symbol of the city, and the top attraction in Athens. Upon entering the archaeological site, visitors encounter the Propylaea complex. To the right, stands the small temple of Athena Nike. However, the Parthenon, a temple almost entirely constructed of Pentelic marble and dedicated to Athena Virgo, captures everyone’s attention. Inside, it once housed a golden-ivory statue. Opposite the Parthenon, on the Acropolis’s north side, is the Erechtheion, the temple of the famous Caryatids, where six marble maidens replace the columns.
