• Sean’s Bar - Known as The Oldest Pub In Ireland, and potentially soon The Oldest Pub in the World, Sean’s Bar boasts a captivating history.
  Sean’s Bar has a well-documented history dating back to 900AD. During renovations in 1970, the bar’s walls were discovered to be constructed of “wattle and wicker” from the ninth century. Additionally, old coins minted by various landlords for trade with patrons were uncovered. These walls and coins are now exhibited in the National Museum, with a section still on display in the pub.

Sean’s Bar has been extensively researched by the Guinness Book of Records and proudly holds the title of “The Oldest Pub in Ireland” with an official dating of 900AD. Research continues into the title of “The Oldest Pub in the World”; thus far, no older establishment has been identified.

• Clonmacnoise - St Ciarán established his monastery on the banks of the River Shannon in the 6th Century. The monastery thrived and became a prominent center of learning, akin to a University of its era, attracting students from across Europe.

The ruins feature a Cathedral, two round Towers, three high crosses, nine Churches, and over 700 Early Christian graveslabs. The original high crosses, including the remarkable 10th-century Cross of the Scriptures, are displayed in a specially designed visitor center next to the monastic enclosure.
