- The Circus - As visitors travel from the port into the city of Basseterre, they are immediately welcomed by the warmth of the island’s residents. Upon reaching the heart of Basseterre, a captivating monument, a green clock, is sure to pique their interest. During the British rule in the 1800s, after a fire devastated Basseterre and it was rebuilt, this clock was erected in honor of Lord Thomas Berkeley, a former president of the General Legislative Council in the 1880s. This historic monument features four clocks facing four streets, four water stands, and a seating area around the clock, hence the name “The Circus.” It mirrors Piccadilly Square in London, home to the famous clock, “Big Ben.” In St. Kitts, under British rule, it became known as “Little Ben.”
- Immaculate Conception Catholic Co-Cathedral - Visitors can admire the church, originally built in 1856 and reconstructed between 1927 and 1928. This structure remains in excellent condition and serves as a historical architectural landmark, showcasing the artistic designs of its era.
- Bloody Point - Bloody Point derives its name from the massacre of the Kalinago Indians that occurred in the village of Challengers in the 1600s. The British settled near the Indians, claiming it was to protect the chickens in the area. The chief, Tegreman, grew suspicious when Sir Thomas Warner (the first governor of St. Kitts) returned from England with African slaves and more settlers. The Indian chief sought assistance from a neighboring island as he planned his attack but was betrayed by a woman. It is said that the massacre was so severe that the river ran red with blood for days.
