This is the go-to hike of the Great Wall surrounding Beijing, showcasing both undeveloped and renovated parts of the Wall at Simatai West and Jinshanling in just 3 hours. The journey to the Wall starts from the Kylin Tower in Simatai West, continuing westward towards Jinshanling. We will descend from the Wall at Shalingkou, Jinshanling, yet if you have the energy, you could hike an extra 30 minutes before descending at Zhuanduokou. The unrefurbished Wall with its watch and beacon towers winds east to west along the mountains. Enjoy the opportunity to make friends with local farmers, sample home-cooked local cuisine, and get an insight into local community life. It’s a photography enthusiast’s paradise along the Wall. As for the level of difficulty, the hike is moderately challenging and suitable for all ages.
- Children must be accompanied by an adult
- Children under 5 are not allowed to take this tour
- Vegetarian option is available, please advise at time of booking if required
- There is no toilet along the path on the Wall. There are toilets at the entrance of Simatai West and Jinshanling. Please prepare before hiking and always carry toilet paper by yourself.
- Please don’t make any appointment after the trip as the return depending on the traffic between 5-6 pm.
- Unlimited bottled waters are stored in our car/van today, and you need a day pack to carry them.
- We will bring trekking poles in our car/van and please tell your guide if you need one.
- Travel insurance is optional and is the sole responsibility of travellers. It is encouraged to have coverage of injury or accident.
- As responsible travelers, we “take nothing but photos, leave nothing but footprint”.

Amazing day hike to the wall - Amazing trip to a quiet part of the wall.
Our guide Cheney was wonderful. Very knowledgeble about history and a great sense of humor.
We were only two people on the hike and had a lot of time for breaks, questions and photos. Would recommend this trip!

Cheney not jenny - Loved this trip, would highly recommend to anyone the wants a more personal experience. Although the drive was a bit further than the other siste it was worth it !! Less people made for a more much better experience

Amazing hike in a less touristy part of the Chinese Wall - We had a great day hiking at Jin Shan Ling with Cheney. He took us to the least touristy part of the wall and hiked for four hours. It was a great way to spend the day and learn more about The Great Wall and Chinese culture in general.

Fantastic Personal Guided Hiking Tour of the Great Wall of China - An amazing personal guided hiking tour of the Great Wall of China. The tour operator provided very good transportation (brand new VW Passat), a good / safe driver, a brilliant tour guide and a lovely Chinese lunch at the end of the hike. We had fantastic views, great weather and only myself, one other and my guide on the wall (not busy at all). Our tour guide was Cheney and he was very knowledgeable of the wall and its history. He knew all the answers and was courteous at every step.

Today we did this amazing... - Today we did this amazing Great wall hike with Cheney an I could not reccomend it more!! The scenery was beautiful and Cheney could tell us alot about the history of China, the wall. Our group was very small, only three people and during the hike we only saw like 20 others. The small group and it being a less touristy spot made it a more authentic expirience. The hike is quite hard, especially in the heat but there are enough brakes to keep it doable! The lunch is fantastic:))

Amazing - highly recommended - Highly recommend this trip - so many good things to say about it
Cheney the tour guide was really really good - looked after us and kept us cool and energised with some snacks and fans on a crazy hot 39C day. I considered the tour that had no guide but was super glad i took the guided one.
Good pick up email details the night before and pretty easy to find
We were only 2 separate guest so had a nice air conditioned car and good driver to ourselves.
Partly because it was a hot day - but be aware it s a bit of a climb to the wall and the wall itself has some very steep sections and steps - take really comfortable grippy shoes
Climb was worth it - the wall itself and the views are much more spectacular than you’re probably imagining!
Very quiet - saw maybe 20 other people over a few hours. Great chance for photos.
Oh and a really nice restaurant lunch at the end.
Enthusiastically recommended. Thanks Cheney!

Once in a lifetime experience - Wow! Even though it was SUPER hot, I would not change a thing! It actually worked out even better that it was so hot because we practically had the whole wall to ourselves! Cheney was so knowledgeable and the best guide ever. We had plenty of water and stops. We had all the time we needed to capture photos of a lifetime. Ended with a local lunch to cool down. Would recommend to anyone.

Wonderful hike - This was a great day trip to the Great Wall! Luis took us to a beautiful part of the wall that was not very crowded and had a lot of the original stones. Luis was a great tour guide and took beautiful pictures of us! He taught us a lot about the history of the wall. This is a very active and strenuous hike, so make sure to bring good shoes. The lunch was also very good, and the transportation was comfortable. We could not recommend this more.

Amazing views & great service - Excellent way to see & experience the wall both more natural (minimally restored) and restored sections. Amazing views of the wall snaking over the mountain ridges in both directions. Our guide, Cheney, was great with both historical and local information. Excellent lunch & friendly driver rounded off a great day out!

Very strenuous activity - The description of the activity is completely inaccurate. Your ad says gentle scenic trek. The only thing that was a gentle scenic trek was the walk from the car to the trailhead. If you are not up for a very strenuous hike then pass on this activity. The steps on the great wall in this section are extremely steep and small. I am not in great shape and I am not in bad shape but this activity is misrepresented.
