- International Mural Wall Divis Street - The politically charged street art murals in Northern Ireland have become emblematic of the region, illustrating its historical and current political and religious divisions.
Belfast and Derry are home to some of Europe’s most renowned political murals. Since the 1970s, nearly 2,000 murals have been documented. In 2014, “The Belfast Mural Guide” estimated that Belfast had around 300 high-quality murals, with many more in various states of preservation. Murals serve to commemorate, communicate, and showcase cultural and historical aspects. They often reflect the values and priorities of a particular community.
In Irish republican areas, mural themes can include the 1981 Irish hunger strike, with a focus on leader Bobby Sands; international solidarity with revolutionary groups; and specific issues like the Ballymurphy Massacre or the McGurk’s Bar bombing. In working-class unionist communities, murals promote Ulster loyalist paramilitary groups such as the Ulster Defence Association and Ulster Volunteer Force, commemorating their fallen members. Traditional themes like William III of England, the Battle of the Boyne, the Battle of the Somme, and the 36th Ulster Division are also prevalent.

IRA members claimed the pub was targeted due to its frequent patrons from the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF). Four Protestant civilians and one UVF member were killed, with over fifty injured.
- Bobby Sands Mural - In Irish republican areas, mural themes often include the 1981 Irish hunger strike, highlighting hunger strike leader IRA Volunteer Bobby Sands.
- St Peter’s Cathedral - Saint Peter’s Cathedral, Belfast (Irish: Ard Eaglais Naomh Peadar) serves as the Roman Catholic cathedral church for the Diocese of Down and Connor, and is the episcopal seat of the Roman Catholic Bishop of Down and Connor. Located in the Divis Street area of the Falls Road in Belfast, Northern Ireland, construction began in the 1860s. It houses St Peter’s Schola Cantorum (Choir).
- Cupar Way - The peace lines or peace walls are a series of separation barriers in Northern Ireland that divide predominantly Republican and Nationalist Catholic neighborhoods from predominantly Loyalist and Unionist Protestant neighborhoods. Built in urban interface areas in Belfast, Derry, Portadown, and elsewhere, the peace lines aim to reduce inter-communal violence between Catholics (mostly nationalists identifying as Irish) and Protestants (mostly unionists identifying as British). The peace lines vary in length from a few hundred yards to over three miles (5 km) and can be made of iron, brick, and/or steel, reaching up to 25 feet (8 m) high. Some have gates (sometimes staffed by police) that allow passage during daylight but are closed at night. Most peace walls are located in Belfast, but they also exist in Derry, Portadown, and Lurgan.
