• Kote Venkataramana Temple - Located next to Tipu Palace, this temple was constructed in 1690 AD by Chikkadevaraja Wodeyar. It boasts exquisite stone sculptures of Indian mythological figures on its walls. The intricately carved stone columns inside the temple showcase the exceptional craftsmanship of the artists. Hindu devotees often book months in advance to perform “Kalyanotsava” (the marriage ceremony of Lord Vishnu with Lakshmi) here. Legend has it that the Garuda Gamba of this temple saved Tipu Sultan from a cannonball attack by Cornwallis that would have otherwise struck his palace. The next destination is the Bangalore Fort, just a 10-minute walk away.
• Bangalore Fort - Originally constructed as a mud fort by Kempegowda, the founder of Bangalore, in the 16th century, it was later rebuilt in stone by Hyder Ali in the 1760s. Today, only about 5% of the Fort remains, but it is well-maintained and open to visitors. This lesser-known monument is definitely worth a visit.
