Exploring the best of Kona with a knowledgeable local guide - We had an outstanding full-day tour experience in Hawaii. The day started perfectly — they arrived early, and we didn’t have to wait at all. From the very beginning, everything felt well organized and thoughtfully planned. Our first stop was a charming local coffee shop where we sampled their homegrown blends. Just outside, in the garden, we were able to pick and taste fresh fruit directly from the trees. We then visited the southernmost doughnut shop in the U.S., which was a fun and unexpected highlight. The natural landmarks were truly impressive. We explored a stunning black sand beach, followed by a visit to the volcano national park, where we saw steam vents and an enormous crater that was absolutely breathtaking. Walking through the lava tube was another unforgettable experience. We had lunch inside the park — the food was excellent, and the view overlooking the crater made it even better. The day continued with stops at a local bakery and candy store, and finally a beautiful waterfall that was the perfect way to close the tour. Throughout the entire day, our guide (Grant) continuously shared fascinating facts and stories about the island. His knowledge and passion added tremendous value to the experience. The van was equipped with a microphone, so everyone could clearly hear him during the drives, and there were plenty of bathroom breaks, which made the long day very comfortable. Overall, this tour exceeded expectations. It was comprehensive, well-paced, informative, and filled with incredible sights. I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to experience the best of the island in a single day. PS - We did not travel with children and neither did the others in our tour.

A day with a volcano. - We had a wonderful trip. The van was not over packed and felt like a private tour. Our guide Nico was born and raised in the area we toured and had tons of history and how the areas have changed over the years he has lived there. A full day and very worth every minute . Recommend this trip for anyone who wants to get the the a good view of how coffee grows, volcanoes have built the island or just get to know the southern section of the island.

Touring with Derek - This was a great tour for our short time on the island. Derek was amazing. He was able to balance our desire to linger and the schedule. Coffee was generous at several stops. Lunch at the Volcano House was a worth the price and the view was beyond description. Made the best of a rainy day! Bring along extra cash for chocolates and bakery items! Ask for Derek -- he made the day!

A great day on the Big Island - We had an exceptional full-day tour of the Big Island with Paul from Kailani Tours, and I can’t recommend him highly enough. This was a long day (about 10 hours), but Paul managed the pacing beautifully — we never felt rushed. His knowledge of the island, its history, geology, and culture was impressive, and he shared it in a way that was engaging and easy to follow, not scripted or overly tour-guidey. Highlights included Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, waterfalls, black sand beach, and scenic stops we never would have found on our own. Paul was thoughtful about timing, weather (which was not great but he had raincoats and umbrellas on hand), and crowds, adjusting the day as needed to give us the best possible experience. He was also incredibly patient, friendly, and genuinely interested in making sure everyone was having a great day. If you’re considering a Big Island tour and want someone knowledgeable, professional, and truly passionate about Hawaiʻi, ask for Paul. This was one of the highlights of our trip.
