Gain a deeper understanding of the unique formations found throughout the Hawaiian islands during a 3-hour private tour. Groups are never mixed, and stops are customized to suit your family and group.
Experience the National Park in a way that is impossible to achieve alone. This three-hour tour offers a private exploration of the National Park, showcasing as much as possible. Driving takes up only about an hour or less, with the remaining time dedicated to exploring past eruptions within the National Park.
The meeting point is in the temperate rainforest of the National Park at the Kilauea Visitor Center. Despite ongoing renovations, it remains the ideal meeting location. It is the first large building on the right after passing the Ranger booths.
The Visitor Center is currently undergoing renovations.
- Nahuku - Thurston Lava Tube - Discover the marvels of this 600+ year-old lava tube and learn about the formation of lava tubes. Explore a lush temperate rainforest, rare ferns, secrets of the lava tube, and more. This half-mile walk is rich with endemic plant and bird species. Learn about the ancient uses of certain plants and their unique adaptations for survival in volcanic areas.
- Steam Vents - Witness the geological wonder of the steam vent area at Kilauea’s summit. Discover how these vents were formed, the contents of the steam, and how locals obtain water (drilling down reveals hot rocks). Observe the local wild orchid and learn how the steam vents aided early travelers to Kilauea’s summit.
- Chain of Craters Road - Chain of Craters Road traverses several past eruptions of Kilauea and features many unique lava formations. In just 3 hours, it’s impossible to showcase all the sites along this dynamic road. However, the aim is to highlight as many different eruptions as possible.
It’s not feasible to list everything that will be shown, as it can vary with the weather, loading speed, and the sure-footedness of participants.
The amount of hiking and travel across rugged terrain will be adjusted according to the group’s fitness level and ability to walk and load/unload efficiently.
