In the Shadows of Stalin's Boots - I've always had an interest in Communist history and was excited to visit a park full of figures that used to loom over Budapest. It took a tram, the metro and then a bus to get to the location from the city centre however it was extremely worth it. Entry was around £8 and I bought a guide book to better understand the park for £5, it was extremely valuable. Once inside there are just over 40 murals, reliefs and statues primarily from the period between 1947 and 1988. Most famously they have 'Stalin's boots', the only thing left of an 8 metre tall statue of Uncle Joe that was torn down during the Hungarian Revolution of 1956. There is a photo gallery describing the revolution and the fall of Communist in the 1990s. Also there is a theatre showing a documentary about the recruitment of spies during the Warsaw Pact era. You have the opportunity to also have a picture in an original Trabant too. Well worth a visit in my opinion.

A unique way to see Communism - A friend suggested we check this out. This is honestly a must visit when in Budapest. You can easily get there via bus. It is far removed but was one of the most unique experiences. It was fascinating to learn more about communism and the unfortunate challenges the people faced. However, this museum leaves a lasting impact because these statues were preserved.

History to touch - Extraordinary exhibition with many nice details e.g. the Russian choral music at the entrance. The brochure is very informative. We hope that more sculptures will be added.

So fascinating—so glad I decided to go - I found this place fascinating! I visited the Soviet Union a few years before the Wall fell. This park has the exact same vibe. It is definitely worth buying the little guide they sell bc it has info on each of the displays including the symbolic message the Soviets were trying to get across. Like in the former USSR, the statues are gigantic, brutal and powerful and creepy too. It doesn’t take much to imagine them looming over significant places in Budapest. Make sure to view the propaganda films, includes in the admission price. They are fascinating. Have English subtitles. I suppose if you are not interested in Soviet or Hungarian history, you may not like the park as much as I did. It was def worth the price of the taxi I took. You can also take the metro + bus but I didn’t have the time. Also make sure to go to the House of Terrorist if you like the park.

A return visit 25 years later - I first visited the park over twenty five years ago. Back then it was in a field on the very edge of the city. Statues were scattered around, and Russian marching music played over tannoy. Today, the park is a far more professional tourist attraction, and surrounded by houses etc rather than fields. The park does guided tours which prove very popular. There is a trabant parked by the entrance, which is a wonderful snippet of communism. The pay booth has glass cabinets with various trinkets to purchase, and also sell hot and cold drinks. There are toilets, which were clean on my visit. The park itself is now laid out in more orderly fashion. There are some awesome statues, but I noticed some of my favourites from my original visit had been removed. Where to I do not know. There is also a photo exhibition, the barrack cinema etc. This really is a great place to visit outside of the city centre. Suitable for all ages

To see... - Not that spectacular but very informative. there is not much status in the park but the most interesting is in the barracks next door where authentic Hungarian-language films, with English subtitles, of training indicators and spies during the Communist period are shown. Moreover, the teller is particularly helpful and helped us find public transport back to the center of Budapest.

Yes visit Memento Park. - This was a little slower on my list, and my wife was no to excited, but it delivered. Reading some of the descriptions on living in Communism was an eye opener and kind of creepy.

Would recommend - We loved our visit here! From our accommodation we got the M underground and then the local bus here, via the BudapestGO app, and nothing could have been simpler. The whole experience was great, from the defunct Trabant car, and the lady at the kiosk with a prompt card for English (no criticism intended, as I have absolutely no Hungarian language). We bought the guide book, which was a great help, and put a lot into perspective. It is shameful that elsewhere in Europe so little is generally known of this tumultuous period of history.
